I need some help here. I just installed a 3'6" x 12' stage in my HT and put a couple of sheets of plywood on it. After jumping on it the bass ressonates like crazy. I need to deaden the sound. I'm also building up the back of the room for raised seating which will be 12' x 10'. I've seen some people pour sand in between the joists but was wondering if anyone else had some suggestions. Sand seems like a lot of work and Im not sure if that will cost too much. Please help!!
Thanks, Antron PS: check out my project - https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...?member=antron |

Are you evaluating the bass with the room as it is in your final gallery picture? If so, things will deaden down one you install the carpet and finish the walls off. However, I would recommend stuffing the floor of the stage with acoustically deadening installation. I'm not sure about filling it with sand though - perhaps bagged sand with deadening installation on top of it would do the trick.
The project looks great though. I can't wait to see it completed. What program did you use for your CAD drawings? It looks handy. |

It also helps if you attach a heavy carpet to the plywood by glue. |

You definitely want to use something that fire retardant. I was involved in a remodel recently and the owner built a theater room off the back of the house. They used the blown insulation that was being used in the walls for the raised platform. I seriously need to start bringing my camera to work with me.

Thanks King. A I mentioned I'm going to go with regular insulation, likely the heavy batting sound insulation. Regarding the program I used to make my room it is called. Live Interior 3D. Basically you design it in a sketch then you can go into it in 3D and check it out. The best $70 I ever spent. I designed my entire house on it.

Sweet Antron, thanks for the tip on the CAD program. I'll have to check it out.
For flame retardation I think stuffing your riser with sound deadening insulation is the right way to go. It shouldn't cost too much to do it, and it will make a big difference. |
