Default Over Heating

I was wondering has anyone had any problems with this...How is the best place to store this i.e. Out in the open?

This being said i have it stored in a cabinet with the front door always open!I'm a bit worried it will over heat.

Any suggestions would be great!so thanks in advance

Always used it standing up. Only once I had a momentary flicker on the image (sound and playback weren't interrupted) one day the a/c was busted and room temps were over 96+ ºF. (rewinding to the same spot inmediatly after, played the spot fine tho.)

I stand mine up. It runs cooler.

BTW, I believe there is a sensor built into the PS3 to prevent damage to the system from extreme heat.

I wish I could stand mine up...but it ends up heating the glass above it...which has my cable box and it makes it worse than when lying down.....

at least I have the space to lie it down and not worry about overheating...but I'd really like to stand it up....it looks nicer...

i had the space to lay it down i didnt have anything around it either and i did for awhile but it ran warm and after playing 3 movies back to back it froze for a sec etc, then i sat it up because i read that someone else had done it and it runs better. so i did and now mine stays cooler and runs better no freezes at all.

I wish I could stand mine up, but the TV stand has 2 sections divided horizontally that are 6 inches tall, so it won't fit.

the only time mine froze is when i stood it up and watched 2 movies in a row......

I haven't had any problems lying it down and when I got home yesterday, I watched pretty much the entire Weeds season 1 with no hiccups at all....along with having it run the entire morning while I was at class...

Glad Sony made the PS3 slot loading as:

1. Even though I've never even damaged one, I have a phobia of knocking and breaking drive trays.

2. There's no tray 'lip' to make sure the disk is settled behind when using the console vertical, just feed it in!

3. There's no way to sleekly integrate a tray cover into a hardware casing design like the PS3's. Slot loading kept it sleek all round!

I have to admit I used to think slot loading mechanisms might scratch disks (maybe early designs did) but after using the PS3 and Wii I'd choose a slot over a tray in pretty much any situation.

And incase you were wondering what the link to this thread was - there's no downside to placing the PS3 vertically like there is with some other consoles with regards to 2. If you can, do it!

the 360 made the rings of death as a feature because the system needs it....

the PS3 doesn't need it as a feature because it was built for actually being used as long as you want....

and it's not that I'm a 360 basher....they do have Gears and a very good online service.....but the box just isn't reliable....the PS3 was built for those who think...outside the box...

nyuk, nyuk

XBOXs are notorious for the kind of heat they generate. Damn, they could run a campaign target marketing the thing as an all-in-one "Gaming Console and Centralized Home Heating System"

/ alternatively, the next gen, "Hot Noise Box" complete with boat anchor size power supply and an optional, bolt-on "Oops-we-almost-forgot before it's-obsolete-HD DVD drive"...

I used to have mine out in the open standing. I recently moved it into a cabinet and laid it down. I made a mental note to keep the door open while in use, and typical me I forgot to open it and watched a movie. Two hours later I heard a big noise and realized I forgot to open the cabinet. I opened it and the freakin thing sounded like a jet engine getting ready to take off. Tremendous heat! I was scared at first! As soon as I opened it and the heat had somewhere to escape the fan started slowing. Pretty amazing though how the sensors up the fan that high to get rid of the heat! It was amazing how fast that fan was blowing! Sony definately thought of everything with this PS3!!!
So...it would be pretty hard to overheat this puppy! I left in confined for 2+ hours and it was playin flawlessly.

I've stood mine up since I had it and it was fine but in the last week it has been freezing while watching blu rays (about 30 min into a movie). Shutting it off and turning it back on resolved it but now once it gets really hot it keeps saying invalid disc. Regular dvds are fine and I figure thats because they don't require as much power. Yet games haven't been a problem. I have to call sony tomorrow because now it's really bad. Not sure if it might be an over heating issue or something else but I can't imagine what, it's not network connection either because I've unplugged that too and it still freezes
