Default How to you organize and hide those tv, receiver, console cable wire?

What are some way or item that help organize those cables, i don't had too much room to work with it. All the cords connect to the belkin power surge protector but is a mess to look at.

This is one of the main reasons I ended up going with an ET stand that isn't "open" where you can see through from the front to the back. It's a serious rat's nest behind it, but at least it's out of sight from the front.

A pic of your system would be nice. Are you renting or own? If you have a good landlord or own you should put it behind the wall. Also for speaker wires go with flat wires, they are a godsend.

It depends on what kind of set up you have going on, but if you have to have wires visible, cable ties go a long way to make it look alot more presentable

Default Hiding Wires

If you are looking for an easy way to hide wires, the best I have found so far is an item called the Zipper. It is made by Monster, and essentially is a piece of plastic tubing that has slits in it. You place all your cables in a "handle", close the handle, attach the "zipper" then pull it through, and it places all your cables inside the "zipper". It gives a nice neat clean appearance. You can buy it at Frys starting at $15 for 8ft. Hope this helps!

This looks like a viable solution for cable management. The cable holders come in different colors from 8ft to 50ft in length. If I didn't have the entertainment stand I have now I'd look into this.

Personally, I would use F6 Braided Wrap-Around Sleeving, or something similar. It's easy to use, looks good and it's easy to add/change a cable if needed (I'm not sure it would be easy using the Monster "zipper").

Some sites like cableorganizer.com, electriduct.com, etc., offer plenty of solutions that can give you good ideas on how to organize your cables.

On a side note, this company offers the same stuff as Monster: http://www.ezcovers.com/

I have a complete mess behind my system, but it doesn't look to bad from the front. I would like to get back there and clean it up someday. This thread has a lot of great ideas.

I did fix one eyesore with the wires from the TV to the components. I didn't want to go through the wall so I bought a cable runner at Lowes. It was easy to install and looks pretty nice, but I haven't updated my pics since I put it up.

Home Depot, Loews, Best Buy all have cable concealers for power cords. You can get as big or as thin as you want (depending on how many cords you have to hide).

I've cleaned it up myself as best I can, but I'd need a new stand to fully eliminate it. I like that braid wrapping. Johk has some, too.

well, you should update your pics, because one critic I would have it that your surround speakers are not placed appropriately. They should be more so to your immediate left and right when in your seated position.

This is true and it pains me. But my rear speakers are more like towers than bookshelves and the WAF comes into play with placing them on the sides. I did spread them out more and have them angled in more. I'll try to take some pictures from behind so you can see more of what I'm talking about with regards to size, etc.. I'm going get some smaller speakers for the sides eventually and go 7.1, but I still will have trouble finding a place for them. Maybe I can put them on the walls. I will try to update the pics soon to at least show the changes I've made.

Default Clean up that spaghetti!

I am about to move into a house and finally am going put my dream HT together. But a problem I have had ever since I got into HT is the cable mess! I just drape cables from one place to another and the back is a spaghetti mess that you can't even dust. When I move to my house, how should I start to organize this disaster? Do wire ties work best? Do tubes work? How do I access my soon-to-be mounted plasma or my surrounds? Do people just run those wires through the wall? The first picture in my gallery (especially the lower right corner) gives you a good idea of what it looks like.

If it's your house and you're not renting, I'd say run the wires through the walls.

Do it the way I did it. Your spaghetti is nothing compared to my macaroni.

I used a couple of items to help manage the mess.

I coiled up the excess length of wires and stuck these on the back of my closed back stand. I got them at Home Depot.

http://www.voltplastics.com/catalog/HTML/abc3.html

I also used some of these Velcro wraps which are thin strips of Velcro. They come 50 in a pack and work great for cord management. I got them at Lowe's.

Here's the mess I had after moving my old wall unit.

It doesn't look much better behind my new Studio Tech rack either.
(No Pics of that yet.)
