Default Interested in a PSN Music Store?

If the music was DRM-free like the PixelJunk OST's, would you choose to download from the PSN instead of your current music provider? What sort of incentives would push you in the direction of the PSN Music Store?
  • 5.1 or 7.1 surround tracks?
  • CD or SACD quality tracks?
  • Not only album art but individual track artwork? example: pic from a related section of the game
  • Using the PSN account that bought the music, the right to stream your music through services like home at reduced quality?
I'd love access to the Uncharted soundtrack but it's not available on iTunes UK. Perhaps with a dedicated service, fewer external hurdles, Sony Computer Entertainment could release more of their soundtracks to everybody.

How much more do you think you'd pay for those and would you expect free normal quality tracks if the HQ ones aren't compatible with other devices?

I don't know where things are at on the lossless compressed audio front with lossy core for compatibility with all players. I made a thread about that ages ago but haven't seen anything since.

edit: here it is.

Anyone know if support is building for HD-AAC? Likelihood of it becoming commonplace like AAC?

i think 1.5x the crappy quality stuff is fair enough price. but if they'd provide you with a program to convert to lower quality for other devices, i think that'd work out ok

If it'll put them in separate folders instead of just putting all the tracks in the music section.

That's one thing I wish they'd bring.

The ability to put videos and music into individual folders.

So if I have a TV series ripped to the PS3 or several albums of music, I can just have a folder labeled "Series Name - Season 1" and all the files inside there, instead of having the videos mixed alongside every other video I've downloaded.

Maybe I'm the only one that cares about that though.

More of a System Software request, but important (along with new management features) if your PS3's going to store your music.

I'm in if DRM-free and copyable to my PC. Love listening on my PS3, but I organize and put on my various mp3 players on the PC.

Make it easier to buy from than Amazon, and you got yourself a new customer.

I would definitely be in if it were lossless/pcm/HD-aac. I am not as concerned with it being DRM free, but mainly the highest quality I can find.

i uploaded a bunch of music from my PC and it has them all organized into folders by artist if thats what you are talking about, you can press square i think on any of the folders and select group by, and there are several options

as far as a PSN music store goes, i would be interested if i was able to store all my music there and sync my ipod through the PS3, but im guessing the chances of that happening are zero

This can be done but it is manual process and cannot drag and drop like a PC. Press triangle on the song or video. choose information and there will be a list of info for the file you selected. On of the options is title i think (sorry on business trip and no access to my PS3) enter the name you want the folder to be and the file will move to a new folder in that name. You will need to do this with each track or video you want to be in that folder. be careful with spacess. A space after the last word of the folder will be treated as a seperate folder of the same name with no space after the last word. Hope this helps.

All of the above. If they can't do 7.1, do 5.1 SACD quality tracks. If they can't do SACD, do CD quality tracks. I want album art for sure. Individual track artwork would be a small plus, but that's all.

(rumour) Sources: Sony considers music downloads for PSP

Quote:
Sony has spoken with some of the major recording companies about providing music for the PlayStation Portable, music industry sources told CNET News.

The sources said the talks are only preliminary and no deals have been struck. But apparently, Sony is considering offering music on the PlayStation Network, the company's nascent multiplayer gaming and digital download service. Such a move could place the PSP in direct competition with other multiuse music players, most notably the iPhone.

Spokespeople from Sony and the big recording labels declined to comment for this story.
I'm sure whatever service they deliver, it'll be cross-platform on PSN.

I want 320, not 128 or 192. Ideally, I want uncompressed and/or SACD 5.1+ but I'm not sure how likely that'd be. I bet SACD would have taken off better if luxury cars offered support. My car has at least a 5.1 setup so an SACD would sound amazing!

I'll be surprised if there's anything fancy but it's a worthy talking point for the quality AV-PS3! If enough people want it and it sets the service apart, maybe, just maybe.
