Default Good idea: Firmware rollback option for PS3

It would be a great idea to add an option to roll back firmware on the menu of the PS3 to test for problems that may have come about with firmware changes.

I thought your post was going to say it was possible which would be a first in computing. My understanding is once it goes up it has to keep going up. I don't know of any product which allows downgrading the firmware. It would be virtually impossible to test going down. There would be too many variables. Going down is in "not supported" category.

If anyone knows of any company supporting such a thing then please post.

Well, we do it with software drivers all of the time. I guess I was thinking like that.

Some rare motherboards have a dual BIOS (firmware feature). The way to roll back would be to install the old firmware from a burned CD-ROM. Of course BLU-RAY manufactories if they wanted to could make it so that you can never install a old firmware version with a message like “This firmware version is older then the one you currently are using."

You can always go backwards.

The problem is, most companies (hardware) won't let you. Most find no need to go back to problems when going foward fixes them.

Why would you want to stick to older firmware releases anyway? I do not see any reason not to keep th ecurrent version on my PS3.

Firmware rollback leaves to door open for hacking. Don't count on it.
