Was looking around at the shops today and noticed at Harvery Norman had a pretty big sale on Home Theater equipment. Noticed a few nice things but one thing in particular was a Power Console. Now, I don't really know too much about them but It's RRP was $999aud but they had it on sale for $599.
Here is the Item: http://www.belkin.com/au/IWCatProduc...duct_Id=300244 As I look through people's pictures I've noticed a lot of people have some sort of power console or protection. Just wondering for this price is it worth getting? And more importantly is it worth getting something like this at all? |

I'm not familiar with A/V pricing policies in Australia, but if you feel it's a good price, then by all means get one. Belking makes wonderful products and, in fact, I use a Belkin Pure AV powerstrip in conjunction with a Monster HDP-2400 Power Console.
See this forum link on great information about this topic. I bought mine more for piece of mind than anything else. After having invested well over $5,000 CDN on my A/V setup, I wanted a unit to protect my investment against power surges and outtages and voltage variances, so it was a no-brainer. Some have even noticed an improvement in A/V quality, although I haven't. John |

Yeah, I totally agree with why you bought it. I've spent a good aud$6000 on my setup, and currently don't have any protection. It's not that I get many power out's or anything.. but I guess it only takes one to kill everything. |

So you should absolutely have a quality surge protector. It's up to you whether or not you want to shell out the additional money for something you may not need and which may not have a measurable benefit. Personally, I'm not sure if voltage regulators are worth all that much. A UPS has a greater benefit in my opinion but they cost a lot more. |

Here I have so many thunderstorms that roll thru, I had to get a
power center just for piece of mind. I figured with spending money on new av stuff, I had to do something. |

I have a UPS and surge protection strips - the UPS for my projector so the fan will continue to cool the lamp if I lose power and for my receiver which loses its setup settings when it loses power. I agree that you at least need a surge strip and the other features depending upon your power co's reliability|quality.
Belkin makes good gear but that price seems a bit steep - Cyberpower makes nice conditioners/regulators at a more reasonable price point - not sure if they are available downunder. Last edited by Phil Taylor; 04-24-2009 at 07:10 PM. |

The degree to which you benefit from such a device is theoretical.
