Cool Dogs & HD

I haven't been able to have a dog since I was in high school until a few weeks ago. We just got a new puppy and I've noticed something odd. I've always thought it was a given that dogs didn't really "see" what was on TV. From my experience growing up, they would always ignore what was on (except for reacting to sound of course).

But now I have a dog who does watch what we're watching. You can see her scanning the screen as things happen. She loves sitting on the couch and watching with us. Is it possible that HD resolution is actually within a dog's vision acuity? It's just been kind of a funny, interesting observation.

I've got a year-old dog and a 50" plasma and I've never noticed him paying attention to the TV.

When my dog was a puppy he would often jump at and bark at the animals on an old-fashioned non-HD CRT TV. This was 13 years ago.

Oh yeah, my aunt has a neurotic Jack Russell and that thing goes psycho at the Animal Planet.

Our Golden doesn't really care for what's on TV, but the Chihuahua will sit there and watch shows. I don't know why, but he clearly prefers shows and movies with helicopters. He'll sit up, wag his tail, and do that Chihuahua smile thing when there is a helicoptor or sustained gunfire.

He's looking forward to HEAT on Blu as well.

I used to have a shih tzu who liked tv. One day I left for work with the tv remote on the coffee table.... the tv off... and it was tuned to the news network I watched every morning before work. When I came home.... the remote was on the couch with my dog.... the tv was on... and it was tuned to Cartoon Network. This is a true story.

The same dog would..... whenever he farted out loud.... would jump up and do a 180 spin in the air and look behind him in a panicked way to see where that fart had come from.

Funny... My dog tried to sniff the screen when the polar bears were wandering around on Planet Earth.

Otherwise he once in a while will watch other HD animals walk around...but after figuring out the bears were not real he lost interest for the most part.

I don't think it as anything to do with HD, my grand ma old miniature colley would just sit there and whatch her old B&W TV. It's all about the animal personality I think, some will, others won't notice or care.
