i did notice there is an "auto surround" button which selects whats best for the particular movie. exaqmple for i am legend it simply displays "PCM" and nothing else. is this right? i am curious about this whole THX thing. does it apply to thx only movies and wouldnt beneficial in a movie like i am legend. again thank you for your help and time.

I just purchased the vsx-03 yesterday and the guy at BB said if you put it on auto surround that the reciever would pick the right format, kind of idiot proof thank god

You need to set your PS3 to LPCM out instead of bitstream. The PS3 won't bitstream TrueHD or Master Audio to the receiver. As far which listening mode: THX modes boast the bass. Other DSPs are your choice. I'd select, Direct (if you have it, or something similar) as it doesn't add extra processing to the sound since the PS3 has already done the decoding.

That should not matter, unless Pioneers have changed...? Did you pick the Lossless track from the movie after pressing 'select' on the PS3 remote?

EDIT: There is also free shipping from Elemental Designs. With that being said, I would stay away from Polk subs. Not that their bad subs by any means, but they have a very high frequency roll off. The roll off for my sub is 18hz. The PSW111 is clear up at 38hz. Don't expect polk subs to dig very deep at all. If I had to give you a suggestion on polk subs, I would try to find a PSW505. For the money, I would suggest the PSW110 to you. But in any regards, there are a lot better subs for the price. I would look at the different sub threads on this site. Look at the BIC H-100 I believe it is. Look into the Acoustic Audio subs thread, and of course the big players, SVS, eD and HSU subs. |

Do you know what the A.L.C audio format is on the receiver? When I was trying to listen to the different surrounds, it seemed to sound the clearest with that setting. But am I still getting HD audio, or is my receiver altering the sound? Is there a better setup I should be using? Thanks.

ALC was designed to be used with portable music players. It stands for Auto Level Control (stereo mode). Basically it makes sure that the volume level from one track to the next stays is output at a similar level.

I own the sc-05 and tried all diffrent setting but the best thing to do is leave it in Auto sorround, this way you know the receiver will choose dtshd or truehd etc to match the disk audio formatt. Just remember when you put in a movie make sure you select the audio set up on the disc so the receiver will match your pick.

Dang, am I late for this conversation. But I will reiterate that, yes, "Auto-Surround" is your best bet unless you want to mess with Direct. But leave the other options alone for movie watching. I only use Processing for say, television, or for playing old school games through plain ol' RCA white/reds.
