Default Question about the Star Trek Blu-rays...

I'm no trekkie or anything and I saw the new movie and I absolutley loved it. So I started looking the net for the Blu-rays of the older movies. And I found a set that contains just 6 or 7 movies. But aren't there like 10 movies? Also is The Orginial Series worth buying? Isn't it a little.... old and crappy (no offense)?

The Original Series...Old? Yes. Crappy? No. The "enhanced" Blu-ray version looks absolutely stunning. Plus, the original un-enhanced episodes come with the set as well. Hurm, when in doubt, rent before buying.

Yes, there were 10 movies. But only the first 6 featured the original cast. They've released those to tie-in with the new movie since it also features the original characters. The remaining 4 movies featured the cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation. They'll eventually be released on blu as well, possibly later this year.

Oh, and the original TV series. Yes, it's old, but it was far from crappy. A bit cheesy and dated at points perhaps, but that's not the same thing.

This person hit the nail right on the head. The production value is pretty low on the original series. However, what makes Star Trek so great as a franchise is their handling of the story concepts. Through all of the series created, the writers run the gamut of every social issue known to man. So, the acting, the sets, and the special effects may be rather weak by modern standards, but the show makes up for it in content.

Yeah, The Original Series Blu-Ray set is awesome. Some frames aren't as clean as others but it's a good set to have. Paramount, hopefully, should release the other 3 TNG movies soon. They may do it when the new movie is announced to release on Blu-Ray in 6 or 7 months.

No, there's 4. They'll assumingly come out as a set like the first 6 did. My guess is around the time the new one hits disc. I hope so anyway. I love First Contact quite a bit.

Some parts of some episode look as good as James Bond 196X Blu-ray and this is a TV serie. Off course, it's not always like that. But a lot of 1980's movie could get their arse kicked by some of the sequence of the TOS LOL! I didn't saw the movie (going tomorrow) but seeing the TOS should help understand subleties of the movies that they added for fans..

So true. People who like the flash more than the science fiction, may be disappointed with TOS. But the actual science fiction story lines of TOS are really great.

Couldn't agree more. Star Trek TOS is exactly how sci-fi should be: well-written episodes, multi-layered, that make us reflect on our daily lives, our own humanity and on various ethical questions, all wrapped up in an imaginary futuristic universe.

For real sci-fi, the visuals take a backseat to the story and underlying meaning.

Although, I must admit I was very happy with the reworked SFX: they give the show a new polish and shine while still staying true to the style of the original show. A job well done!

I love it when people do this in other threads (I believe they call it thread crapping!), so here it goes:

Don't they already have a thread for this here:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...83#post1886683

and here:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ight=star+trek

people are so quick to bash newbs on this site for creating new threads for subjects that have already been discussed over and over and over simply because they don't wanna use the forum search bar. It is so obvious that this has been discussed day in day out about everything Star Trek, why don't you simply look down at the bottom of the movies page, it's right there and waiting for the past 30 min! Now I completely understand why people get mad about this sort of thing. I am sorry, I now see that I am no different from anyone else.

Now that I have your attention I might as well say that you need to see TOS! and you need to do whatever is necessary to get your hands on Star Trek TOS blu-ray. Now that I have displayed myself as a hypocrite to the entire thread, go visit those and you'll have all your questions answered.
