Vizio now is the number one LCD manufactory when it comes to sales because consumers like the low price. Hopefully future Vizio 120HZ and 240HZ displays will offer true 1080p/24 refresh rates using the multiplies of the original frame method (5:5 pulldown). All the VIZIO's so far that are 120HZ use interpolation of new frames method instead of offering a repeating frame method. All the Sony and Samsung 120HZ LCD models offer true 5:5 pulldown at 120HZ when the motion feature is turned off.

At least Vizio's quality is improving pretty fast for a company so young. Vizio's latest plasmas and LCD's are solid products for the money, and if they get their LED LCD tech right they may increase their slice of the pie even more. Has anyone noticed that Samsung's prices seem to be increasing with every generation of LCD's in regards to the larger sizes? Why is it that their LED edge-lit sets are so expensive when they're obviously cheaper to make then local dimming sets? Are LED based sets even any more expensive than the old tech to make anyway?
On top of that Samsung seems to wanna throw every gimmick they can at their plasmas instead of finding ways to get better black levels like customers want. I mean they have very good color accuracy, so a deeper black level is all that's left. Making thinner displays and adding a bunch of gizmos doesn't seem to justify some of their pricing...at least to me. Personally, I was hoping that the 5-series and 6-series plasmas would have substantial black level improvements, but apparently that's not the case. They're still nice sets, but I must say I'm disappointed. Hopefully Vizio's LED tech turns out to a very good product. Competition from this company will certainly help bring prices down in the future. |
