Default sci-fi or Sy Fy

Appearently the sci-fi channel is logo morphing soon to be known as Sy Fy.

I personally love sci-fi friday and am concerned they'd go with more wrestling
and less battlestar, stargate or what they deem the core audience.

They want more viewers and think saturn+sci-fi will turn off others who might be invited in with Sy Fy.

What do you think? New coke fiasco waiting to happen,B$ logo change
with no real change or worse becoming g4 ver 2.0 with cops, ninjas and wrestling!!

Hopefully, they won't change their programing. Probably some "genius" believes that "Sy Fy" is cool or something.

Sy fy is stupid. Just dumb. And with most of the shows worth watching on it now gone, even less reason to watch.

Might as well include the logo in this thread:

Since SyFy doesn't fool anyone as to what the channel used to be, I assume it's just a way to add more non-sci-fi programming under the excuse that "we're not a sci-fi channel anymore", and it's just a coincidence that it sounds like sci-fi. Who knows.

As said in the other thread, worst marketing idea ever. They have a name that is universally known and quickly associated with their channel and change it to pure gibberish.

I could have sworn I read a convincing explanation somewhere about this, but since I can't recall it nor come up with a logical one, I'm going to settle with- this is incredibly stupid.

Wow that is really dumb. Never mind what I said about convincing.

That's why Cartoon Network got the picture. If you are going to show live action material such as like that Ace Ventura Jr. series(which in fact is not a cartoon) then just call the channel CN instead of Cartoon Network.

That new logo looks lame IMO. They should have kept their old name and just straightened out how to correctly cite them once and for all. Silly journalists.

Apparently NBC is trying to kill everything in it's programming spectrum.

Sci-Fi (or now Sy Fy) is an NBC cable channel and it became more apparent with this level of lunkheadedness. I guess destroying what was already the worst over over the air network wasn't enough (according to cumulative ratings). They now have adopted the hooked on phonics spelling which as many so rightly observe opens the door so that NBC can dump the very worst of it's programming some of which was so bad to actually see air anywhere else on to one of it's smallest but most loyal audiences. Good marketing job. If this network wasn't propper up by GE, NBC would have folded years ago because of it's clueless management and huge operational losses.

they should spell it "SighFi", since that is the noise you should make when you view one of their movies for 10 seconds before changing the channel

By Fy-hopefully not but another channel G4 started out as tv for gamers and
gobbled up tech tv then proceeded to turn to crap as fewer and fewer game related shows are on g4.

Sci-fi didn't have it that bad but after getting it's core market they're pulling a
new coke on us,most likely to their,or our -the core audience's detriment.

Sci-Fi-Sy Fy=By Fy.

Default syfy is lame

I cannot believe they changed their station abbreviation, sure they have the right to, but syfy =/= science fiction Sci-fridays just wouldn't be the same as Sy Frydays

I must be behind the times b/c I just noticed this on tv the other day. Anyone know the reasoning they changed it?

They can copyright and trademark SyFy, they cannot do the same for Sci-Fi.

As I understand it, the SciFi channel became SyFy so that they could BRAND it and gain money from that circumstance.

Count me in with the bad idea group, I do not like the change and actually think their previous logo looked "cooler."

scifi geeks don't like change I'm sure they'll stick with the change, but yeah their older logo was cooler. Ashame they are doing this just for a trademark. I'd take SFC (science fiction channel) over Syfy any day (if it had to change)
