Default Happy 10th Anniversary

To Blu-Ray! 10 years ago we got our first taste of Blu-Ray with the release of
50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, xXx, Underworld: Evolution, and The Terminator. Along with the release of the first Blu-ray Player Samsung’s BD-P1000. It wasn't until 2010 I believe I got my
PS3 (Blu-ray Capable) player & got my first Blu-Ray titles: Inception, The Expendables, & The Town. And ever since then my collection has grown. What are your found memories to 10 years ago and 10 years later?

WOW! Thanks for reminding us!

Yes, happy 10th anniversary to the format that brought us a step further in high-definition.

Wow! I have only been a Blu Ray owner / fanatic since 2010 when I HAD to upgrade for the Cabin Fever director's cut that was only released on Blu Ray (feel free to judge me). Six years and many thousands of dollars later, I am more in love with Blu than ever, especially now that so many genre titles are available and upcoming.

It would be so much easier if it was spelt properly I have changed the spelling in at-least a thousand thread titles at this point

It has been longer then 10 years

I jumped on board in December 2007. I was an early HD DVD supporter but when the writing became clear I quickly sold off all but 1 of my HD DVD's and made the switch to Blu Ray. My very first Blu Ray was for The Simpsons movie. I was a regular at High Def Digest for years before jumping to this forum.

I got my first Blu-ray player in Summer 2010 - a slim model PS3, which I still use today.

I'm not sure what my first BD was, but it might have been the original Halloween.

I got my first blu-ray player around this time 6 years ago. My first pick ups were The Dark Knight and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I watched movies hooked through a computer monitor for months before picking up a Panasonic plasma which has been my go to television set up until a few weeks ago when I upgraded to a 4K set. I've spent years hunting down bargains to amass my collection, it was nothing for a while there to come home with 6-8 blus a week. I've since slowed down a bit but those early days were pretty exciting going out and finding movies and coming home and watching them and experiencing them in such high quality at home for the first time!

I bought the Samsung P-1000 in February 2007 since it was the least expensive player at the time. It was on sale for $499 and it was a complete lemon. All I seem to do is firmware upgrades on it. A few months later the Sony 300 fell down to around $500 and I bought it and dumped the Samsung. Some of my first movies were The Devil Wears Prada, Stranger than Fiction, Hitch, The Transporter, Invincible and The Departed.

Before BD, I had an HD DVD player since the Summer of 2006. Eventually phased it out when the war was over.

Now I am starting Ultra HD Blu Ray. The madness continues.

Didn't upgrade until June 2013, but my grandma had accidentally gotten me the Casablanca collector's edition Blu-ray set back for Christmas 2008 instead of the DVD version. She didn't know the difference. :P But I held onto it until the inevitable upgrade, by which point a newer better edition was out...

When I actually did upgrade and start collecting, my first discs were Tenchi Muyo OVA collection, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and The Thing. I now own almost 200.

It took me so long to upgrade because I was in high school with no job and had to wait until my dad got one for free through his job's rewards program (a Samsung BD-F100). My house now has 4 BD players, including my brother's PS3/4 consoles. I upgraded to DVD in June 2003, so it was fitting that it took exactly a decade for the next upgrade.

I upgraded to Blu-ray in December 2007 with Spider-Man 3, which was bundled with the PS3 I received for Christmas, and Hairspray being my first BDs.

The predictive text on the iPad I use for all my Internet browsing insists on changing Blu-ray to Blu-Ray every time. Might be the same (upper) case here.

My first Blu ray purchase was the Planet of the Apes 40 yr Evolution Collection Box Set from Amazon in April of 2010, before I even had a Blu ray player.

I got my first Blu ray player (Sony S570, which I still use today) in May of 2010 for my birthday and my daughter got me Avatar. I joined Blu-ray.com in July of 2010.

Reflecting on my home video experience, we got our first vcr back in 1987 and my mom got a tape full of old Looney Tunes cartoons and King Kong (1933) for me along with it. I fell in love with Kong and it remains my favorite movie to this day largely thanks to that tape, which I still own even though it doesn't work anymore. I upgraded to DVD in the year 2000 when I brought a new computer with a DVD-rom drive in it (which looking back I was way overcharged for it and didn't know better at the time) and picked up The Matrix as a blind buy to watch. I would later get an X-Box for my first stand alone player to hook up to my tv. I didn't really begin to amass a respectable collection until I upgraded to blu-ray in 2010, I had maybe 150 DVDs over the years but it was very random what I picked up. I just purchased my first 4K blu-ray earlier with Deadpool and got a new HDR compatible tv a few weeks ago so I'm just waiting on a few more players to hit the market and I'll be fully upgraded to 4K, this will be the earliest I have ever adopted a new home video format too.

Got my first HD-DVD player in February of 2007. Loved it, but when the format war was officially over in early 2008, I knew I would eventually switch to Blu-Ray. Got my first BR player in November of 2008. Still have my old HD-DVDs for sentimental value.

I was encouraged to buy a PS3 after the release of the first volume of the Neil Young Archives in June of 2009, so I'm not quite at the ten-year mark yet. Neil had commented that blu-ray was the only way to go, so I finally leaped. (I may have rather cynically pretended it was a gift for my son; in all fairness, he's gotten quite a bit of use out of it.)

At the time, I didn't think things would get quite so out of control. Hey, I held off for three years -- which I probably squandered by continuing to buy DVDs.
