Default My wife's first impression of CIH

She walks in, looks at my DIY anamorphic lens/housing, looks at me and says "That not permanent, right? Cause its ugly". I havent even told her I need to make a BIGGER screen. Wonder how that'll go over...

Tell her it matches her broken lamp shade!

haha

How does it work? Also, much easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

I am guessing the Cinamascope picture won't impress her enough to make her forget about it.

Where did you get the crystals?

A few nights on the couch will be well worth it.

It works pretty good so far. Need to build my 2.35 screen and dial everything in before I can truly comment on the end result.

I got the prisms from Precision Crystal. I have a family friend who has an eyeglass company. He put the AR coating on it for me.

All in all, I am please with the whole project.

As for my wife...

What if he is the one that broke it and turned it around so she didn't notice it?

I thing I may just keyhole the brackets where they mount on the wall and take it down when not in use. I only use the projector 1-2 times a week at best. It may be a good compromise.

sorry seedubxj, I had to laugh because that is EXACTLY something my wife would say. Typical when you're excited and all proud of a project lol.

Yeah it is ugly. Not sure how I can say that without offending you but you could really benefit from a professional installation or increasing your skills.

You couldn't have moved the projector back (zoomed in some if needed) and mounted the housing on the ceiling where the projector is currently mounted?

Well, I personally think it looks beautiful!

I would suggest painting or covering the piece of wood, perhaps if the entire set-up was white, she would not have noticed or commented. Another idea is looking to see if you can find more decorative L-supports, perhaps some with the "leaf" theme to match the wall decoration! Trying to place the supports where the projector support is located would also be a good idea. Good Luck!!

Oh and by the way the comment about "No BALLS in the house" was a bit below the belt!!

I have since painted the bare wood, the pic was taken during my test fit.

I cant move the projector, as the Optoma HD65 has dismal zoom.

I would be more than happy to get a pro lens/pro install. Please make your donation payable to...

I have found a way to make the whole unit removable when not in use. So the appearance should no longer be a major issue.
