Default Misleading numbers we keep using

I keep hearing on these boards that blu-ray has 70% of the major studios and the market now, and that hd dvd has 30% of the market. This is false and not true. We have failed to account for the intimidation the Warner effect has caused on the major studios in the red camp, they are afraid to release to the degree the blu-ray studios are. This has caused this:

Major studio exclusive releases (does not include re-issues) from 1/22/08:

HD DVD

2/05: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
2/19: American Gangster
2/26: Beowulf
3/04: Into the Wild
3/04: Things we lost in the Fire
3/11: Bee Movie
3/11: Fletch
3/25: The Jack Ryan Collection
Total: 8

Blu-ray
1/22: The Game Plan
1/22 Saw IV
1/29 Daddy Day Camp
1/29: Damages: The Complete First Season
1/29: The Invasion*
1/29: Monty Python's Life of Brian
2/05: Across the Universe
2/05: Wall Street
2/05: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Rober Ford*
2/05: The Brave One*
2/05: Crimson Tide
2/05: The Jane Austen Book Club
2/05: Me Myself and Irene
2/12: Becoming Jane
2/12: Gone Baby Gone
2/12: No Reservations*
2/12: We Own the Night
2/19: In the Valley of Elah*
2/19: Run Lola Run
2/19: Michale Clayton
2/26: Justice League: The New Frontier*
2/26: 30 Days of Night
3/04: Ice Age
3/04: Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
3/04: The Rookie
3/11: Appleseed Ex Machina*
3/11: August Rush*
3/11: Dan in Real Life
3/11: Dogma
3/11: Gattaca
3/11: Hitman
3/11: I, Robot
3/11: Independence Day
3/11: No Country for Old Men
3/11: Slueth
3/11: Saawaryia
3/18: Enchanted
3/18: I Am Legend*
3/18: Steep
3/25: Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
3/25: Bonnie and Clyde*
3/28: Godzilla

* = Timed Exclusive
Total: 42

This gives us a ratio of approx: 81:19 in favor of blu-ray. I got my info from High Def Digest.

PS: I'm not sure if ST: Season Two is still to be released for HD DVD, but HDD had it up, can anybody confirm or deny this.

UPDATED: I can't find ST: Season Two anywhere for HD DVD. It wasn't in Paramount's release of Q1 titles after Warner and now Amazon only has the DVD up and not the combo HD DVD version at all. I'm assuming due to horrendous sales of ST: Season 1 this got cancelled. I updated the numbers as well.

And I'm sure we have not seen everything planned to be released this year either.
Looking good! Thanks for the work on this, it is good to show the titles being released in comparison after the announcement.

out of that list there really only are 3 movies that might sell decent: Beowulf, American Gangster, Jack Ryan Collection, and by decent i mean break 15k units sold.

Waiting for 2010..one of my faves...and Starship Troopers...one of my guilty pleasures.

Otherwise waiting for Para to wise up, so I can get some Blu Trek...at a reasonable price.

That doesn't look good for HD-DVD. Although there is not that many Blockbusters on Blu-ray's side either.

Nice work on the list Stockstar. Really puts things in perspective, expect the 80%+ ratio to increase for Blu.

I had read somewhere that it had been cancelled and a quick check on Amazon does not show it listed, not even a placeholder. Still not a good sign for support from HD DVD studios.

personally I think your numbers are more misleading. Blu-ray DOES have approximately 75% of the POTENTIAL HDM market, and HD-DVD 25%. Going by number of movies released or announced is shaky ground.

You can add the 6th day as Sony announced an April release day.

I agree...I'd rather go with a worst case scenario and see the potential numbers even if they never reach that potential. Still the releases you've shown are a terrible sign for the HD-DVD crowd.

I didn't say there were no great movies on the list, what I meant was day & date blockbusters. We all know that catalogs don't sell nearly as much as day & dates.

The only exclusives I see selling a lot of copies is Hitman and We Own The Night. The Warner titles will sell more than usual but are still being released on HD-DVD.
