Default Receiver Question

I've narrowed down my receiver search, and I'm finding the HDMI on the Rotel RSX-1058 is V 1.1 is it necessary to get a V 1.3? What differences will I notice, and is there anything I won't be able to do with the 1.1 ? I can't find one they make with 1.3, and I'm pretty brand loyal, so I'd like to upgrade with Rotel if possible.

thanks in advance.

as long as the player can decode, you only need hdmi v1.1 or higher.

If I'm not mistaken, Betaman is running B&W speakers (705's and 686's). While all decent receivers features-wise, the above won't do the B&W's justice. Sound-wise there's no comparison; the Rotel wins hands down. Like Crackinhedz said (you previously), as long as the player can decode you're all set with 1.1.

I'm actually looking at Rotel for my speakers. I have a pair of Dynaudio Audience 72SE fronts that I will be adding to. I'm holding out for a few more months hoping to see some v1.3 receivers released. If not, well, 1.3 isn't essential. Good luck.

You're correct, the only concern, I'm looking at now, is the price difference in the Rotel models..... 75w/channel, vs. 100w/channel is a HUGE price jump, but the 100w/channel doesn't offer any additional features I need. The B&Ws are pretty power hungry, but 75w/channel should get the job done, and maybe I'll go separate amps down the road.

Good luck to you too.... I've been keeping my eye out, and asking around, and Rotel doesn't seem like they're quick to adopt the newer technologies, as they seem to take a lot of time to perfect whatever it is they put out..... hopefully 1.3 will be out soon, and make my decision easier.

I for one don't worry too much about advanced codecs.

I would just check with Rotel to ensure that they have implemented the 24P protocol handshake if you want to be able to view 24fps content without interpolation if you don't have a PS3 (or similar device with a forced 24P mode) for BD playback.

This was a simple software upgrade for my Lex, since the 1058 has an internal scaler, this could be a little more involved.

EDIT: just saw your second posting

FWIW, none of the high-end brands are quick to the uptake on v1.3a so it isn't just Rotel.

If you don't need the radio and have the intention to upgrade your amps in the future, why not get a Rotel pre-pro instead of the receiver?

if you want a high quality HDMI v1.3 receiver:

Marantz SR7002 ($1,400)

HDMI v1.3
4 hdmi inputs/ 2 outputs
7.1PCM
Dolby TrueHD and Dts-HD Master decoding

2 HDMI outputs! thats a huge plus.

Thanks! I had a Marantz receiver, and remote, and loved both. I will look into this as well.
