Default My Dad Is Convinced. Now To Get Him To Jump

He always knew that blu ray would win. But now he came over saw some movies in blu. Now he wants to get one. He said he is gonna wait for the prices to come down. i think he is lookin in the 200 range. I searched. couldnt find one in that range. do you know any good deals? whats the best price right now? This can include some blu rays as well. so paying a lil more but with like 5 or 10 blu rays is ok. Thanks guys

I thought the $399 PS3 was the best you could do right now. I could be wrong though.

In all seriousness, try ebay you might find some deals on there. I know I saw a sony BDP-301 for about 350 on there the other day. Whatever you do, stay away from Samsung!!!!!

Thumbs up Ps3

I would 100% make him get a PS3, even he had wouldnt own a single game, PS3 is by far the easiest blu-ray player for updates (with the wireless), it doesnt cost a lot more than any other other blu-ray player out there, and its simple to use. its the way to go.

Try convincing him its a media center. Besides blu-ray/dvd, & games he can use it for browsing the internet, playing music, streaming content from his pc to his PS3/Tv (if he has a pc). Maybe even dvr/tuner capability soon. Thats alof of stuff that standalone players cannot do.

I agree the 40 gig PS3 at $ 399 is you most inexpensive Blu Ray option.

Sign up Sony Visa Card & Reward Zone first then wait for the card to deliver to your Daddy. Then go to at Best Buy to to pick any Sony BD Player or PS3 System at least $400 range. Use the Sony Visa Card and Reward Zone Card to get a discount. You'll saved $100 off Sony product for your first qualify purchase. PS3 40GB is the cheapest you can afford. BTW, Sony Visa Card has no interest for 6 month.

Uncompressed multi-channel is just through HDMI.

The optical will give you DVD-Video quality audio (up to 1.5 Mbps dts)

The HDMI set to "PCM" will give you TrueHD converted losslessly to PCM and uncompressed PCM.

The only thing it's yet to do is dts-hdma, which will be coming via a firmware upgrade sometime later this year, likely a month after the first dts-ma decoding player surfaces.

my dad and mom isn't.... but I am. Here I am owning 3 BD-capable device: a laptop and 2 PS3s.....

get a PS3. If you want it cheap, get it used via ebay, or import from Asia - particularly Japan. it plays region A.

if you set the hdmi out to "linear pcm" the ps3 will decode all the latest codecs to pcm and send them to your receiver as pcm via hdmi. so yes, the ps3 supports the high def audio streams so long as it is connected your reciver via hdmi. the only thing right now is you only get the core dts if you output dts hd-master. that should be fixed with a firmware upgrade in the future though. if your connected via optical cable you only get the standard dd and dts.

ps3 is the best blu-ray player on the market right now, and also one of the cheapest. convince him the ps3 is the way to go, and get a ps3 blu-ray remote to make it feel like less of a gaming system if that bothers him.

Good to hear he is ready, sorry though he is not ready to jump.

I have to say that the PS3, though considered a gaming machine is one of the best blu ray players out there. For the price it can't be beat. Quite machine and the fastest load times.

The "gaming" frame of mind comes from the HD DVD camp and their brainwashing they were pushing a while back. Time to move on from that way of thinking.

He won't be sorry once he take the leap.

One more thing. Have your date come on to our site here and take some time reading up. Alot of his questions or concerns may be answered here. Just have him do some reading.
