Default Availability problems makes the PS3 sales a Wash in mid 2008? (update: nope)

According to the French gaming blog "Gameblog", NPD has released sales "estimations" for the main consoles in the US for July.

http://www.gameblog.fr/news_5815_pre...les-en-juillet

The sales would be as follow, and are for now touted as "estimations", although they seem rather precise to be only estimations.

DS : 625.445
Wii : 612.545
Xbox 360 : 325.488
PS3 : 275.444
PSP : 235.447

The Xbox is touted to have outsold the PS3 by more than 50.000 units, which was expected by specialists given the clearance $299 price on the Xbox 360 20Gb, as well as the lowered availability of the 40Gb PS3 model which is -according to Sony- no longer in production, waiting for the arrival of the new 80Gb SKU in late August.

If those assertions are correct, this could lead to a dire situation in August with less 40Gb SKUs available and people waiting for the new SKU to be available, resulting in a comfortable 360 lead in sales as well in August (the new Xb 360 $349 60Gb SKU is expected this week).
So far, the PS3 has outsold the 360 in January, February, March, May, and massively in June thanks to MGS4. Being outsold in July and badly in August could pretty much bring back the PS3 sales lead to a wash (and a near tie) for the first half of 2008 in the US, mostly due to unavailable 40Gb SKUs and the timing of the new SKU.

Hoping those are not confirmed, and that August does not follow those predictions.
This being said, we all know that the "real" sales game is Sept-Jan...

If you don't care, why do you always coment on the side of the XBOX360?

I just think that being outsold because of stopping the 40Gb production too early would be really stupid, that is all

In the end, it's just a matter of competition on one hand, but also about making the PS3 a "must release" platform instead of seeing time and again those idiotic delayed multiplatform for our console of choice.

I dont always comment on the side of the 360. I comment on anyone who bashes either console. I happen to like both. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Besides, if you dont like what I say, put me on ignore. Also, how was that statement supportive of only the 360? I said both are selling well, and in the end, thats all that matters. Your fanboy mind spins it in another way, to justify your hatred of a system you dont own. He said it was a dire situation for the ps3, i said its not. How is that commenting on the side of the 360?

What "He" said was that if the 40Gb PS3 runs out everywhere (it 's out of production) and the supposedly limited 80Gb MGS4 Pack at $499 goes on the rare side as well, then yeah, Sony is facing indeed a prety dire situation until the end of August. If you can't find a $399 Console in store, and possibly no PS3 at all...

In the end, indeed, it's only 1 month of data, but do you even remotely imagine how journalists are going to spin this one ?

Does any of this effect online play for you guys???

I ask because I don't hook my systems up to the net and mostly play one player or invite people over (in the old style) so as long as I have the system I like and they are still releasing games for it, I could care less what happens with the rest of the world.

Slightly off topic, I'd like to mention that the chicken joint on Rt. 3 West in Clifton absolutely SUCKS!!! I had the WORST hotwings the other night. They were undercooked and they were just soaking in a puddle of hotsauce.

Blech

Sorry...I just really enjoy chicken.

Lol, sounds gross. If I ever make the long trip over there, it won't be for their chicken anymore.

Effects mine none... I do not really care about them, but others happiness gives me more food to feed on which grows my power... so whatever makes others feel good.

Last I knew this was a site that supported blu-ray and the PS3 is its biggest driver of sales. Shortages of that and not gaining headway on the Xbox360 is a problem if there is shortages. There won't be much love for the xbox360 and it's rrod that many have experienced time and time again. The only advantage that thing has is it's games and online gaming (which you pay for) and that gap is closing quickly.

Just to keep things in perspective, Tales of Vesperia on the 360 just put the 360 sales in Japan over the PS3 this past week
