PS4 Rumors- What we think about them!

I have recently done some reading on the magical tool known as the internet to find that it is rumored that PS4 will not have (or is rumored to not have) an optical drive for discs!!!! This includes cd/dvd/BLU-RAY!!!! The rumor is due to fact that PS3's blu-ray drive is what makes it so expensive and hence reduces sales! But c'mon... A PS4 that doesn't play blu-rays?!?

I can understand the shift forward as we (consumers) would rather purchase and download to a massive HD, but something doesn't sit right with me not having a drive for a disc. I mean what if I want to play an old PS3 game that runs on Blu-Ray?! Would they have an adaptor? Maybe an external optical drive that plugged into the PS4?

The next idea that was addressed was the rumor that the ps4 may not come equipped with all the add ons that make it so amazing and stick solely to playing games. If i understand this correctly, everything that I have come to love about the ps3 would be leaving in the ps4!

The last thing that wasn't really addressed that I wonder about is the PSN ID. My guess is that it would transfer over WITH everything that we have accomplished on them, but who knows!

Thats why I am starting this thread. I want to know what you have heard and what you think about all this!!!!

How can a PS4 not play blu-ray, when all Playstation games are blu-ray discs.
Either way I don't want it, we till have a lot from PS3. And I'm more than happy with my purchase.

Any ps4 rumor is garbage really. it won't likely be out for at least 4 years maybe longer.

Oh, Cammy, Cammy, Cameron...I think you've just reopened the "Blu-ray vs. HD downloads" can of worms!

I've heard rumors like this for the PSP2 more often than the PS4 though. Where in this mystical, magical "internet" thingy did you read this?

Oh, and for the record, I greatly prefer physical media to downloads.

It's far too early to tell, nobody knows anything about it. Heck, for what I know we may never even see a PS4.

Of course I think Sony will bring us the PS4 sometimes in the future, will it have an optical drive? Most definitely, Blu-ray drives will be dirt cheap by then, games will need even more space (1080p all the way), movies on BD will be everywhere and cheap too...even the Xbox720 will have a BD player in it.

Downloadable games will be available just as today, but they'll be available the same day the BD came out or maybe even earlier. But for a downloads-only console it's just too early, maybe the PS5 or PS6.

The New PSP rumor seems to be far more plausible, the UMD disc drive takes valuable space, is expensive, noisy, drains the battery and slow. I guess this will be Sony's real life testbed for a downloads-only portable console. It won't be an all new PSP2 console with better specs, but just a new PSP model.

This is one of the most terrible rumors ever, when it's time to release the PS4 the Blu-Ray drives will be CHEAP!... and with 50GB, 100GB or even 200GB discs and 1T drives, we can have BOTH!

I ain't buying a ps4 if one showed up today. I see use for my ps3 as a gaming machine for 7 more years & a blu-ray player until it dies on me.
