Default Broken HDMI output on TX-SR805!

Alright, alright. Yes, its true.

As you can see in my gallery I have bought new floorstanding speakers and some people have suggested that I spread them out further, which is what I've wanted to do anyways, but I've been lazy about it.

Finally moved the speakers and moved my electronics rack over to the right just 10" maybe? And in the process it twisted the HDMI output to its side because its the thickest HDMI I could get from monoprice and it runs thru the wall thru the hole right behind the receiver. I've tried everything I could to fix it but it looks like theres 3 pins bent/pushed into the receiver's HDMI output. All of the HDMI inputs work perfectly and I'm playing audio thru them because they weren't touched. I bought this from Circuit City back on 7/18/08 so its under warranty, but I'm not sure if they'll cover it since it is user's fault.

What is your suggestion?
1. Sell this 805 to somebody that can fix it, and buy something else?
2. Sell this 805 to somebody who only needs component output, and buy something else?
3. Send it out to get fixed(price?)?

I experienced the same damned thing with my monoprice HDMI cables. Thinking that the nylon(?) jacket, thickness was the best way to go, I never considered the effect it's rigidity would have on the connection when you need to pull/push your components. I ended up replacing my HDMI cables with the cheaper more flexible kind (purchased for $3 a piece) which work just as well. I also purchased an "L" shaped HDMI connector from BlueJean Cables (about $8) which relieves the stress on the one remaining thick Monoprice cable.

However, my HDMI 1 input on my Pioneer Elite Receiver is broken pins look bent compared to other HDMI inputs (all other HDMI ins work fine). I called Pioneer and explained that the HDMI 1 is not working and after referring me to an authorized service center, through the phone, they said it could be a bad HDMI board or a simple broken connector, both of which are covered by the 2 year warranty. Sucks that I now have to disconnect everything, and do without the receiver for probably a few weeks.

Just called their service center which is in NJ(1100 miles away) and they said to just send it in and its covered under warranty. What sucks is that it's going to cost $60 or so to ship it because of its weight and insurance and ship confirmation. So, I think I'm going to send it in and maybe buy a different HDMI.

I don't know if I could get away with a thinner HDMI because its approx 25' that I need and thats why I bought the thickest one you could get.

At least it will be covered. I wonder if they have service centers in other areas, like Pioneer did? At any rate, I agree with the 25' cable, I would definitely recommend the "L" connector - take a look here (called a Right Angle adapter note you need to figure out if version A or B works best for you the difference is the orientation of the connection) : http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/adapters/index.htm

it costs about $8, but it relieves the stress on the connector caused by the hard cables. Good luck!

Why not consider a fourth option and send the unit to a repair shop that enhances the system as well, like NaturePhoto does? If you are paying for shipping anyway for a little more money they can enhance your system and fix the connector at the same time. Cost a bit more but less than buying a new AVR and apparently it would be vastly improved as well.

Under the Audio theory listing NaturePhoto has a thread on testing of modified components, probably I should have used that term instead of enhanced. The shop replaces certain components with higher quality parts that are supposed to upgrade the system noticeably. It isn't necessarily cheap but I think they have various levels of upgrade so maybe one is available without being all that expensive. Replacing an HDMI plug is almost trivial for a shop like that. Naturephotos particular service shop is certified by Onkyo I think and does work under the warranty. I don't remember how to link the thread but it was https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=17423878, but right now it is at the top of the Audio theory listings.

When I spoke to the Authorized Pioneer Service center when I complained about being without the receiver for two weeks, they mentioned that they would check it, clean it and update the firmware if one is available as part of the service call. I will also ask about possible updates/modifications while they are at it.

Yes, that reminds me that I better have them update the firmware so I don't have any more of that "DTS-HD bomb".

This happened to me a couple of times. I damaged the HDMI inputs on my Epson projector with the Monoprice HDMI cable. The in-wall Monoprice cables are too thick and inflexible. I sent the projector back to Epson and they sent me a new one. I bought another 35ft cable from Vaster Cables on Ebay. It was a lot more flexible.

Another time, my son and I damaged the i-link output on a $3,000 Sony HD video camera. I took it a local guy from Norway who does repairs. It cost us around $150 and took over a month because he had to wait for parts from Sony.
