Default Blu-ray to Multiple DVDs?

Is it possible to split a Blu-Ray movie file and burn it to multiple DVDs to watch it in a DVD player? Just asking out of curiosity.

no.

DVD players don't support the codecs that 99% of blu-rays use (DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD, LPCM, H.264/AVC, VC-1), won't recognize the blu-ray file format (.m2ts)

even if you did manage to remux/transcode blu-rays into the DVD format (MPEG-2, DTS, .vob) and span it across several DVD discs, 99% of DVD players don't have the required processing power or data throughput for HD media.

So even if the Blu Ray file was .avi . It still wouldn't be able to burn and play in a DVD player?

blu-rays are never AVI. but even if you managed to rip, remux, and transcode a blu-ray to an xvid/divx/avi/vob file format that your DVD player recognized, it's unlikely it would have the capability to playback HD video, in which case you'd have to 'downmux' the resolution as well.
at that point you may as well just watch a DVD.

why is it that you want to try to watch blu-ray on a DVD player anyway?

I let my friend borrow my PS3 and he hasn't returned it for a while. I downloaded a ripped .avi Blu-Ray file and just got curious.

the simplest, quickest, and least frustrating solution to your problem is:
take back your PS3.
