Default Deal too good to pass up?

I was just offered a Panasonic TH58PZ800 for $2600 Can. It's been on display for a week (or so I've been told) and was made in Dec of 2008. As a price comparison the new Pany 58" S1 is $2999.

Should I just on this? The only requirements I really needed was THX and HDMI 1.3 and I believe it has both.

Thanks.

That's a great deal but if you have some money to spare than a few hundred dollars more you can buy a 54" V10 at Best Buy.

I thought that this was a better model, even if it is a year old. Plus I'm already stretching my budged and was really hoping to go 58" as I already have a 50".

The V10 is a much better set.

If you decide to buy it, research how to access the service menu to check the total hours on the set. This way you can verify that it's only been on display "one week".

I don't necessarily believe it either. I'm trying to find out how to access the service menu and see how many hours are on it but not having much luck.

If I don't get this set then I'll probably go for the pany 58" s1 for around the same price but brand new.

I called Panasonic and they won't tell me how to do it and google is no help. If anyone knows how it's done it would be greatly appreciated!

Or should I just forget it and go with a new Pany S1?

I don't believe they make a 58" S1. They make a 58" V10, which is what I would recommend.

Try this. I believe it works for all Panasonic plasmas, regardless of model. Just be REAL careful. You can brick a set if you don't know what you are doing. I accept NO liability if anything bad happens.

What he said! Get the 58" V10 in a factory sealed box and don't look back!

I loathe anything sitting around a store that has been running. A demo model hammer perhaps, a plasma TV, NO way no how!

You guys need to know that:
1) 58" V10 is not available in Canada yet and...
2) It is going to be a lot more expensive here. Just compare the 50" and 54" prices.

Unfortunately I can't look up any other Panny models at 58" and it seems you are set for atleast 58".

I still hold to my 54" V10 recommendation. It's only a bit more expensive than the price you posted.

The price of the PZ800 is just to unbelievable for it to be only a week on display.

EDIT: If the V10 is stretching your budget than perhaps the G10 would suit better?

They do make a 58" S1. Its the G10 that doesn't come in 58". The G10 is maxed out at 54", but yes the V10 comes in 58". Of course there's a very large price difference. My personal opinion is that if you want the largest for the money then the S1 is a fine set. The V10 is a better set but I wouldn't get the 54" at the price that it currently goes for. The difference in size between the 50" and the 54" is pretty small considering the big difference in price. For the money I would either go with the 50" V10 if picture quality was the highest priority or I would get the 58" S1 if I really wanted the increase in size and could live with a small decrease in picture quality.

If your budget can handle it you should look at the 58" V10. I don't know when it will be released in Canada. The 800u is a fine set too and if that set truly has been on display a week then you wouldn't disappointed with it. I should point out that the THX setting is actually better on that set than it is on the G10 and a hair better than the V10's THX setting. Of course the 800u doesn't produce the blacks that the newer Panny's have, so that would be a trade off. With the prices close I'd say the S1 is a slightly better value.

Thanks, this is exactly what I wanted to know. I think I'll just go with the S1 and not worry about anything. PQ is pretty important so that's the reason I'm going with a Panasonic plasma in the first place. While I'd love to see how many hours the 800U has with my luck I'd brick it and then I'd really be screwed.

I appreciate the response everyone.

That 800u is nice...I wish the new Pannys still had the 800 series speakers.

I swear the last time I checked the Viera website, the only 58" set was in the V10 line (3-4 months ago). I see now the S1 line has both a 58" and a 65".

My bad.

Damn, talk about a good price. Unfortunately I'm in Toronto so it would be a too long of a road trip for me

I would check this out. chris (the owner) is selling it brand new for $1900, not sure if he has any displays left, however. but you should check. I bought a 65" panny from him and it was free shipping.
(this unit is listed at $100 for shipping but you can deal with chris. nice guy.)

The only problem with that is that I loose out on the warranty if I buy an American tv plus I doubt he ships here. I could always ask though as those are some great prices.

I own the 58-800u,excellent set. Blacks are plenty black but if I were you I would save a while longer and get the 58-V10. I also don't like the idea buying display model stuff but that's just me.
