Default EWWW! I saw a movie in theaters!

For about the past year I have been going to a movie theater that has digital features, however with harry potter being so popular and all I had to get tickets ahead of time. The digital theater is a little out of my way and i didn't want to make the trips twice in one day, so i just went to the regular theater. I think somebody took about 25 gallons of vasline and smeared it all over the screen. It was disgusting, you couldn't make things out unless they were zoomed in on.

IMAX is expensive though and you only see it once, I would rather just own the BD version so that I can watch it as many times as I please in all its high def glory.

Every movie theater near me shows both digital and regular movies, but by some freak occurence, I can NEVER make the digital showtime. It's driving me crazy.

Our local Carmike puts hot new releases ONLY on their digital screens (DLP). We went and saw Harry Potter 5 on Wednesday for a matinée showing with my oldest daughter and it was amazing. The audio was also incredible.

My only complaint (and I couldn't tell if this was the movie or the theater) was that many scenes seemed unnecessarily dim, almost like someone forgot to adjust the contrast.

As for the OP, anytime I spend the $ to go to the movies and my experience is THAT bad, I always ask to speak to a manager and ALWAYS end up with free tickets (and sometimes concession vouchers) to another showing. You wanna charge me $9 a ticket, you better work for it!

the cheapo little theater by me has better projectors than the expensive as hell one across town. they use dlp projectors its nice. I might go see potter tonight there. the 1 bad thing is that their sub isn't powerful enough for the theater. but its the best I can do until those potter movies come out this fall (i think, damn you warner)

Is there a good source for finding theaters with DLP projectors? DLP.com has a theater finder, but I know for a fact that at least half of the ones they list in my area don't do DLP.
