Default HD Movie Theaters

How come our movie theaters are not in Hi Def? I searched a little bit online and some people suggested that they are gonna just jump to 4k or something. Anyone have an answer for that? another question is i thought 1080p was the highest resolution possible? now i hear something about 4k. so whats the best quality that can ever be available? or will it always just keep getting better? i thought there was a certain standard that all companies had to stay at which was no higher than 1080p? or i could be all wrong..someone please educate me and others that have these exact questions/

not sure, but I think it's a necessary jump for theaters if they want to continue to lure people out of their homes. It's kinda like a baseball park, they have a lot of revenue streams available once you get inside the park, so the more draw available, the more they sell of everything else.

its funny because my wife (gf at the time) used to go to the movies 4x a week. But we had a baby and got married...now we never go. last week was the last time we went and saw a movie together in 8 months. I have been 4x in 8 months...and ill tell you id rather see them on blu ray WITH NO ONE ****ING TALKING than go to the theater.

There was a thread a few weeks back, use the search function

Long story short, movie theaters have always been HD. 35mm film has better than 1080p resolution

1080p is the standard resolution for the home for the forseeable future.

Higher than 4K has diminishing returns because of the resolution of the human eyeball
