Metallica Increases Reward for Missing VT Student The band Metallica has raised the reward in the search for Morgan Harrington. The Harrington family says the band, who Morgan went to see at John Paul Jones Arena last Saturday, is adding $50,000 to the reward. The reward for vital information in the investigation into the 20-year-old's disappearance now stands at $150,000.

Morgan Harrington’s parents reported her missing when she didn't return from the concert one week ago.

Virginia State Police tell us they spent eight hours canvassing around the arena Saturday night, handing out missing persons fliers with Morgan’s picture, description, and the tip line number. Investigators were hoping for new leads from people who travel around the arena routinely.

Harrington's photograph was also featured on the "Whoo-tron" during the University of Virginia football game Saturday. Police say nothing significant came out of the night's canvas.

This morning Dan Harrington, Morgan's father, told the CBS Early Show, "actually, just yesterday, I received a call from Metallica and they're working on increasing that to $150,000."

At 2 p.m. today Fox News reporter, Laura Ingle stated: "Lead Singer, James Hetfield made a phone call to the father of Morgan Harrington just yesterday [ to ] offer the band's support and they are putting up all the information of Morgan Herrington's disappearance on their website. { The Band } is also offering up $50,000.00 to go into the reward to help find Morgan Harrington."

This will be bring the reward overseen by CRIME STOPPERS up to $150.000.00 for any one who can provide valid information to the location of the missing Va. Tech student.

"We just do not know at this point what has happened to Morgan," said Lt. Joe Rader on Wednesday. "Somewhere out there there is still very vital information that we need to get that we have not yet received."

Metallica, well know for their appreciation of their fans, has reached out to the Metallica community by posting the following message on their website since October 20th.

Their message reads:
"One Of Our Fans Is Missing. We are deeply concerned about the disappearance of 20 year old Virginia Tech student Morgan Dana Harrington, who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday night.

Morgan has blonde hair and blue eyes, is 5'6", 120 lbs., and was wearing a black "Pantera" T-shirt, black skirt, and black boots. She was not carrying I.D. or a cell phone. Morgan was separated from her friends shortly before 9pm at the venue. Police have been searching the area since Monday.

We encourage anyone who has any information regarding Morgan's disappearance to please come forward. Additionally, if you or anyone you know shot video footage or took photos of the concert or audience, please check to see if there is anyone in your photos who might resemble Morgan. Please contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3425 or the UVA Police at (434) 352-3467 or police@virginia.edu. if you have any information.

Our thoughts are with Morgan and her family for her safe return."

Metallica's heartfelt message has deeply resinated with their fans as members of Poor Posting Me, Metallica's private message board for the Metallica Fan Club, have viewed a thread dedicated to the disappearance of Morgan Harrington over 5,000 times since the topic was started on October 19th. Metallica Fan Club members from all over the USA, and as far away as Holland, The U.K. and Spain, have all expressed concern for the young woman's well being.

Nor did the news of Metallica's intentions of adding funds to the reward surprise their devoted fans.

One fan on the message board proclaimed, "I'm really proud to be a part of this club, a fan of this band, and an acquaintance of all of you caring, wonderful fans. I know we all wish we could do more, lets keep praying for this poor girl and her family. I feel one of the best things we could do is not let the story die."

Another stated, "Seriously, I love this band. How very kind of James to call Morgan's father and to offer an additional $50k in reward money. As a father, I'm sure that James (and the rest of the guys) can imagine how horrible it would be to have his child missing."

A 27 year old fan from New Jersey said, "All [Metallica] clubbers going to shows from here on out...get to know the people next to you (especially those that go solo) And don't leave the arena until the show is out and there is plenty of people around you...travel in packs!! If someone looks troubled/lost...help them find their group or the help they need. We are a huge family and no one is going to go missing from a Metallica show ever again."

During Metallica's live performances, James Hetfield can often be heard summing up how many of their fans feel. "Show of hands. How many of you here tonight this is your first Metallica concert?" After surveying the audience Hetfield's next words ring almost proverbial, "Let me be the first to welcome you to the Metallica Family!"

Clearly the impact of Morgan's disappearance flows deeper than just throughout Roanoke, Charlottesville, and the United States. It has impacted a world wide family the young Virginia Tech student wasn't even aware she was apart of: the Metallica Family.

Sad that it takes a reward to make people cooperate. Just the thought of someone being found isn't enough.

I know , I never understood the whole "reward" thing in a missing persons case.

Saving a life/finding the person should be enough
