Default kdl-55v5100 or kdl-52z5100??

just wondering if anyone has this and if so what they think of it. i am seriously looking at getting one in the next few weeks (before christmas) and was wondering if there were any other options in the same price range at that size. i looked at the 55" samsung, non led, and it is about 500 bucks more expensive. thanks for your guys help as always.

i dunno if it'll help, but i'm looking into a sony either the w5100 or the z5100 (or xbr9 for that matter), all of the above have a newer panel I believe than the v, look it up though, i could be wrong... that said, i'm returning my samsung b750 (theres a recent thread) and i'm hoping to find a good price a sony as well... think it's the way to go

Just grabbed the SONY 52V5100 from Amazon for $1339 delivered to my DOOR. THis is an upgrade from my 46" XBR2!

I love SONY, I can care less about SAMSUNG and TOC. The picture on the SONY is beautiful and looks excellent with the PS3. I was gonna go for the XBR9 but I keep reading that 240Hz is nonsense and just another way to suck an extra $600...

thanks for your guys help. i think that i will have to keep my eye out for a cheap price on one as the holidays approaches and jump on it when i think its a great price. i have to imagine that if the 52V5100 has a great picture, than the 55" verision would have to have something close

i looked around quite a bit more at other choices. i believe that i may have settled on the 52z5100 instead. i know that it is 3 inches smaller, but for some reason the specs on this tv blow away the v series and is also cheaper. wanted to see if anyone out there had any thoughts on getting the z instead

I have the 40xbr9. It's similar to the z5100. I do recommend getting the z5100. If you can, upgrade to the xbr9. I absolutely love my xbr9. The picture quality with the xbr9 is one of the best I've ever seen. I got it at Best Buy when they were offering a surround sound system with a blu-ray player for every xbr9 purchase.

From what I've heard and seen, the z5100 is pretty similar to the xbr9 granted with a few exceptions. Either way you're getting an amazing television.

I did compare it to the XB9 to the 52Z5100, as that was my first choice.

From what I found out the XBR has the speakers in the back, plus there is a set of tweeters in the speakers and it also uses wcg-ccfl.

Other than that, the panels are pretty much the same, 240HZ, 100,000:1 CR, also 4 HDMI, Ethernet connecton....

For the price difference I went with the Z and could not be happier. The PS3 and BD look incredible on this screen. The streaming with my Time Warner Internet connection is great as well.

If you go with the Z you won't be disappointed.

If you look at the specs the main difference is the backlight, the z uses a CCFL back light and the xbr uses a WCG-CCFL

If you look at Sonystyle.com I believe that some prices went down in t.v.s the V series is a great set if you want good picture and not spend a lot. The Z series is close to the XBR9 where it gives you 240 hrz and 100,000 contrast. for the money get the 55v you can't go wrong with that set.

The 52Z has a the Bravia 3 engine as opposed to the bravia 2 found in the 55V.

The 52Z also has a 10 bit panel and proccessing. The 55V only has 8 bit.

The 52Z makes a better picture.

Hey nick,

I went with the 46V5100 and I feel in love with it. No it dont have all the gadjets of Sony's higher end tvs but I aint intertested in those anyway. I am happy because of the picture quality, 120hz and Motionflow. Plus I bought it at a price I just couldnt say no to. My second HDTV was the 46V4100 and it impressed me enough to grab another V series tv only this time its been upgraded.

.

Just ordered the KDL-46W5100 and Sony S560 - $300 on Amazon.com. Too good of a deal to pass up. I just couldn't justify spending almost $1000 more for 6 inches, 240 Hz, and a 10-bit panel (in the Z5100 or XBR9) and a receiver our family didn't need.

Nick -

Excellent choice... I have the Z and it has been great. Run a network connection to itand make sure to register with the code you get. You can then watch "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" free for 24 hours strating Dec 8th.. one full month before the DVD is released.

thanks wicked for the heads up. the main reason that i got this tv is because i got the 52z, a sony dn1000, and a 560 blu ray player for around 1700. the tv alone would have cost me almost that much and i needed both the receiver and blu ray player so it was an awesome deal.
