Default Chances of a Spider-Man box set re release now?

I've been holding off on the Spider-Man box set as I was hoping that around the time the 4th movie came to theaters they might re release it w/ all the skimped out extras that they did the first time plus maybe some new stuff. However now with the cancellation of S4 (reboot should take a few additional years to come out), I have a feeling this might not happen. Thoughts?

I really hope they do individual releases of the first two now. I never bought the box set because Spider-Man 3 isn't allowed in my home. (No offense meant to those who like it. Just wasn't my particular cup of tea.)

On a related note, I hope the reboot doesn't dwell too long on the origin, since we basically just got the origin a few years ago.

A reboot doesn't necessarily mean we won't see new releases of the first 3 to tie in with it. WB released both a Batman and Superman DVD set during their respective reboots. Although superman Returns wasn't a complete reboot, Batman Begins was trying it's hardest to distance itself from The 80's and 90's films.

Even though the new film won't be connected to the first 3, sony is still smart enough to know that when the new film hits consumers will be spider-man crazy and gobble up countless merchandise including any potential DVD's and blurays

On a side note, whats with the hate for spiderman 3? I see it all over the internet and i always get the feeling that people bash it because they feel they have to. Was it as good as the first 2, no of course not. But it was far from a bad film (One emo dance scene hardly ruins a whole movie). I can count several other superhero films that are much worse then spidey 3 was

Batman Forever
Batman & Robin
X-men 3
Punisher (the orginal one with Dolph Lundren)
Captain America
Elektra
Catwoman
Superman III
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

Hell spiderman 3 will look like The godfather in a few years when compared to the reboot staring Zac effron, and milley cyrus with Larry the cable guy as green goblin and simon Cowell as vulture. Oh and it will be 3D

Yeah, the 'reboot' (which sounds like a stupid idea to me at least) isn't hitting theaters until at least 2012. I'm sure there will be some sort of re-release at that time, but that's at least a 2.5 year wait for you.

What's missing on the current set that you're looking for?

This is in a small group of movies that seemingly most people despise on this forum-- I have the set, I've seen all 3 movies more than once--
all I can say is........ huh???
It's a perfectly good sequel, yes SPIDERMAN 2 is superior.. so what?

no, I suppose not-- it's a topic that comes up over and over again.. like DNR debates and it's clearly pointless..

The extras were next to nothing on Spider-man 1 & 2. Maybe they will re-release them again. I'd like to see them add the original trailer and the teaser trailer which had the twin towers for Spider-man 1.

I know, and I agree with you about Spider-Man 3, but I figured it could get ugly if it kept going.

Yes, But it's still not the worst Punsiher, that one with Dolph Lundren is like someone took a crap added some 80's cop action and filmed it for 90 minutes

I've found the Punisher films get better with each try, With the current Ray Stevenson version being the most enjoyable. Hopefully in 2 or 3 tries we will have the best damn punisher movie ever (although, i wish they would give Stevenson another chance and make a sequel to warzone, not another damn reboot in two years time staring Jay Baruchel as Frank Castle..in 3D)

I remember being confused a couple of years ago. I work loosely with press, and the press release for the Spider-Man Blu-rays came into my inbox. The press release - several times - mentioned that the first two films would have no features. But it mentioned that as a good thing; as a selling point.

I thought I was clearly misunderstanding the press release, so I called press relations and the rep sounded very excited. "Yes! The first two releases have no extras." I asked if they wanted me to stress that in the article and was told yes.

Still don't quite understand that one.

I was hoping to have the special features from the first two movies included as they are basically bare bone versions. Though I'm thinking now I may just pick up the current box set whenever they go on sale.

On as side note I enjoyed the 3rd movie as well & don't understand all the insane hate it seems to get.

Ah, my bad... I don't have the set (and hadn't even looked into getting it), so I didn't realize that it was pretty much free of supplements. Odd choice, given how high profile this was in the early BD days and how much they stuffed onto the various DVD incarnations.

Yeah, the first two movies are barebones except for them including Spider-Man 2.1 for the second movie. I think Sony's excuse is that they ran out of time and had to release it this way in order to meet the street date. Either way, I'm fine with owning the current set.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for a re-release of the first 2 films at least. I like to get rid of my DVD versions whenever I upgrade a movie to blu. But since the first 2 movies are bare bones on blu (while the dvds are fairly well stacked), I'm reluctant to pull the trigger. Part 3 is fine on blu, but the first 2 need to be re-released.
