Default Rumor: Looney Tunes coming to Blu-ray

From the wonderful TV Shows On DVD website:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Bug...re-Plans/13214

"Any chance we’d see any Looney Toons on Blu-Ray?" Jerry candidly (but guardedly) responded that there are some high-definition ideas floating around out there for Bugs and his pals. His exact words were: "Yes, there are plans for a Blu-Ray release of Looney Tunes. I can say no more." We understand, Jerry. We also know that nothing is set in stone yet, either, and anything can change.

Jerry refers to Jerry Beck, the noted animation expert who has worked with WB in the past on Looney Tunes dvds. This looks like very good news for Bugs Bunny and gang.

Well the only good thing is they could put a whole lot of cartoons on 1 disc, that is the only benefit. Cartoons are the only thing I can think of that still look ok as full screen being streched to fit a 16:9 TV.

Let's hope they are the original, un-politically-corrected versions. I can't recall specifics off the top of my head, but I remember a couple years ago watching some episodes on TV and noticing scene deletions and other changes that weren't there when I watched these as a kid in the 70's.

Originals episodes = Day 1 buy for me. I LOVE Looney Tunes!

Agreed. A proper release of the original unalterned cartoons would be a day one buy for me

Thumbs up Space Jam would be nice.

I'm suprised people said they want Space Jam. I'd probably pick it up myself, I always liked the film as a kid, but I'd wait until it cost $14 and under. I don't think it was that popular?

It made $90.4 million at the box office and had its own soundtrack, so it was fairly popular. I would be all over that if they released it on Blu-Ray.

Space Jam is an embarassment. It had a solid opening weekend and then dropped like a stone after the poor word of mouth. It wasn't "fairly popular". It was an awful movie. Remember Brendan Frasier on Conan O'Brien imploring people to see Looney Tunes: Back in Action by saying "This is not Space Jam"....?

Couldn't agree more. A friends wife has banned Looney Tunes from their home since their sons were old enough to watch TV. But that Pied Piper Wiggles and Teletubbies crap plays 24/7. I weep for our future generations.

"Let's hope"?? You didn't even BUY the Golden Collections?
(And saw "Mississippi Hare" or "Duck, Rabbit, Duck!" aired uncut?)

As I mentioned on the blog, Warner switches to their new format on the LT releases on 4/27, and fans would be wise to watch carefully what later gets announced in tandem with it...

I think it would be great if they just release alot of the old school cartoons that would be on each and every week. I could care less about the movies.

I want the classic cartoons, Space Jam - Um not so much. I don't ever want to see that film ever. ( I think it is fine if they release the film and also a collection of cartoons also, I just don't ever want to own Space Jam, I think it sold a billion soundtracks for that cheap sentiment of a song contained in the film haha)

I remember LT:BIA coming out in '03, right after the great "2-D is Dead" panic of Finding Nemo vs. Atlantis, when every columnist was trying to divine the "mysterious" reasons why animated films were failing right and left.
And when LT:BIA deservingly sank like a box-office stone on its fifth-place opening, and columnists were on a roll for to divining "sociological" reasons why, you never heard so many loyal Bugs fans shout back "...It was the freakin' MOVIE!!!! "
That debate ended quickly.

(As for Space Jam, fans still use that to show what it looks like when merchandising carpetbaggers try to make Bugs Bunny jokes without ever having seen any of the cartoons in their lives:
"Oh, look, Bugs said 'Ain't I a stinker', remember that one?...Oh, and now he just gave someone a dynamite stick in a box of popcorn, you remember that cartoon!..."
There was a LOT more of Jordan and NBA onscreen than there was of Bugs or Marvin.)

Looney Tunes on blu would be frickin' awesome man. I think they are head and shoulders above Disney when talking shorts. Wonder ihow they'll release 'em, like the dvds or what. I'd kill for a Road Runner blu as those still make me laugh out load.
