Default Trade-in/Resale value of backward compatible PS3

I have a backward compatible PS3 from the MGS4 bundle (no longer have the game). I'm thinking about selling it or trading it in because I want one of the new slim models. I've heard people are still paying pretty good prices for backward compatible models. Does anyone have any idea what it would be worth in excellent condition? I'm sure I would probably be better off selling it rather than trading it in, but trading it in is quick and easy.

It's not true backward compatibility, it's emulation.
Looks like $500-700 on ebay.com, + shipping.

Thanks for the response. What's the difference?

I'm not quite sure what the difference is, I'm not much of a technical guy. I do know Sony made sure people understood it's not the same as the "true" backwards compatibility that came with the first wave of PS3s.

The original PS3's had the actual hardware needed to play a PS2 game. Compatibility on those systems were close to 98% of all PS2 games. The PS3 you own replaced one of the PS2 chips with software emulation, reducing compatibility to around 80%. It still is highly prized on the secondary market.

Ok thanks for the explanation. Do you think ebay would be the easiest way to sell it?

I thought about that, but the few times I've tried to use it people constantly make ridiculous, stupid, lowball offers. I might try it anyway.

I may be wrong, but if your system was new you may get $500+ for it. but since its used with no game i dont see it going for a whole lot more than a slim. is there a reason you want a slim instead of the MGS4 ps3? cause its kind of a downgrade if you ask me.

I'm thinking of selling my 60gb, and getting a slim, if selling the 60gb would cover the cost. I've never used the card readers, and I've only played 1 PS2 game on it (a Ratchet and Clank game), and that was 2 years ago.

I like the smaller design of the slim, and I like that it's not so shiny. I also like that they bitstream lossless audio now. I know the audio quality should be the same either way, but I still like it. I've never used it for playing PS2 games either.

Plus, the newer slim is much quieter than the older fat model. If you watch a lot of movies with your PS3, the swap might be worth it.

Plus, the older models that were PS2 backward compatible also played SACDs. I routinely use my launch PS3 for PS2 games and more importantly SACD playback, so I'll never give it up.
