Default Windows 7 keeps dropping internet connection

I have been having problems with Windows 7 dropping internet connection on a consistent basis while using a browser (IE 8 and Firefox) and wondering if anyone else was or has had the same problem.

I did do a google search and found out that some people had experienced the same issue, but there was no clear cut solution. The common thing that I did find is that the problem seems to occur with NVIDIA chipsets boards.

Anyone else having this problem? If so, can you comment on a solution that worked for you? Thanks in advance.

first NEVER USE I.E.

second i would power cycle your modem and router and restart your computer and see if you keep having the same issues , you might wanna check to see if you have the most current network drivers

Are you using a laptop?

Are you using a usb adapter? Did you install the proper drivers or just plug and play?

More info please

It's a desktop rig that I built. Latest drivers for everything. Rig is:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
RAM: 4GB
Mobo: EVGA 790 FTW DDR3
V-Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 280
Windows 7 Ultimate

I was just curious if anyone was having the same issue as me.

Wireless? Wired? I assume wired since it's a desktop. When it drops connection, what does it do? Display an error? Show "no connection"? Time out on web pages?

Definitely power cycle your modem and router. Even though I don't prefer IE, I wouldn't say "never use it". It works fine. I use it in business settings all the time without much issue.

Yes to everything you had suggested! Those were the first things I did when the issue started. Issue still occurred afterwards...Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah, I've power cycled my modem and router a few times since I installed Windows 7 for a different reason, but the problem still occurs.

I hear you on IE and prefer to use Firefox but for some reason some plug-ins do not appear to support 64 bit Windows 7. Thanks for the suggestions though.

That's the reason I stick with IE. I quite frankly don't get the hate-on for IE, I've never had a problem with it and does everything I want.

sounds very much like your network card's drivers may be causing conflicts. Did you install the drivers from Windows updates?? did Windows 7 auto detect it and you're using those drivers?? or are you using the drivers provided to you by the manufacturer of the network card??? also I'd suggest going to the website of the network card's manufacturer and downloading the latest driver set.

Happy to report that the issue appears to have been solved. I uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers and re-installed the manufacturers drivers and haven't had a drop for about 3 days now. I normally don't use the manufacturers drivers because they are not always the latest. It appears this was a problem not with NVIDIA and Windows 7, but with EVGA and Windows 7. Go figure, but others reported the same issue when I checked the forum.

Thanks to all who tried to help.

Just something else to keep in mind, if you have Comcast as a ISP and are using a torrent program, they will cycle your modem over and over again.
