Default DLP and Blu-ray question

I have a Samsung 61 inch 1080p rear projection tv that I bought arund 3 years ago and I am thinking of getting a Blu Ray player to replace my up dvd player which is a Samsung also. My question is will there be a big enough difference between the dvd and Blu Ray player to justify getting a player and the extra that I will be paying for the Blu Ray discs? My parents just bought a Samsung LED LCD and I can tell that theirs is sharper but its also a lcd where mine is a dlp. Minus the sharpness of the picture will I be able to see any of the high def upgrades? This may be one of those personal preferences kind of questions but I just needed some opionions. Thanks for any input you might have.
