So I was browsing through some newer TV's earlier and came across this. Looks pretty sweet. I'm considering this for my next TV. Has anyone seen/heard anything positive or negative about it? Or a TV that's substantially better for $2600? I really wanted to go LED backlit for my next TV though
![]() Edit: For $200 more here's the 46" un46b7000 luxia series with LED backlight Last edited by AppleCrumbDlite; 04-11-2009 at 07:50 AM. |

It's a very nice LCD, but for the same money you can get THIS 58" Panasonic plasma that will absolutely blow it away. If LCD is a must and you like that Samsung then I would suggest that you get THIS instead. Its the same TV minus a few bells and whistles that you probably won't use, but with the same great picture and a lot cheaper. And that Samsung UN46B7000 is LED edge lit and not back lit with local dimming, so I advise you to completely avoid that TV. According to the Cnet review done on an edge lit set the results were very sub par and it was no better than traditional LCD's. If you want an LED back lit set with local dimming which will perform very well then you should look at THIS 46" Samsung or THIS 47" LG. I still think the Panny is the better way to go especially since its within your budget. Its one of the best TV's you can get.

This HDTV has a fast response time (2 ms), the design is very slim (about 1 inch thick case) and it is very beautiful with Charcoal Grey Touch of Color

I got the LN52B750 also and I have been very happy with it so far. The pedestal stand is really nice as well. Looks great with everything I have watched on it so far. I used a DVD to tweak it some and the setting from Cnet as well. I think it could probably be done better with some patience though. I'm slack, so I will wait for someone to post their settings and try them out later.

If I were you and looking at a budget TV, I would go for either the LN52A750 for $1799 or the LN52A650 for $1947 (which has been cheaper in the past, might want to wait for a sale or somethin) Good luck man ![]() |

NO.. it wont blow it away.. And even if YOU thought it would blow it away , he may thing the same as me , where its not close.. Those panasonic Viera's are nice , ( 800u, 85u of last year ) but was disappointed.. the breakdown.. One of my tv's is the sammy LN52A750 BAsically the same as yhe OP wants for this year-- I researched for MONTHS and was in store viewing and comparing reviews on the top AV forums with ppl who live and breathe HT... And i chose the sammy LCD.. WHy?? Whiter whites ( by far ) Black levels were near the same, SOmetimes my 750 actually looked darker ESPECIALLY in light.. Much more vivid color , with not a drop of saturation NO motion blur READ the REVIEWS.. do you know how many people rated this as the 3rd best PQ TV ( plasma OR LCD ) Number one being The 50" Kuro.. #2 being the 55" sammy series 9 ( 950 ) So really.. the OP needs to look for himself.. You telling him a panny plasma is gonna "smoke " this samsung is Bias and ignorant .. But hey OP.. If you want something that sucks in the light, has urine whites and is not as detailed in any way.. go with the panasonic ![]() |

I bought mine for $1998.95 at Fry's. Best LCD I ever had. Rivals the LED 46 inch Samsung it was display next to it and at the time for $500 cheaper with larger screen, this won me.
There will always be a better LCD/Plasma out there, and everybody will have their own preferences, but get one that suits your budget and convenience. In general Plasma will always have(for now) better picture quality than LCDs, but I choose this because it suits my needs. |

Im not sold on plasma yet.. Its just not crisp enough for me.. I dont mean crisp as in cranking your settings up just to have it bright and colorful, i mean under a good calibration ( which dims it down alot as it is.. ) and then when you do it to a plasma the PQ is great , but yet you cant see have of the details... Perfect example.. If you watch Transformers ( 2007 ) watch SIDE BT SIDE , a calibrated panasonic plasma, and a 52B750.. The part where optimus prime first meets Sam.. The detail and intricate things are lost in the plasma due to its inability to process a crisp bright pic.. IDK where this is going , but i m just trying to inform you as a person who has been into, AND worked in AV, car audio and home theater since 2000... Another thing man.. Im telling you right now, if you get a TV ( in general ) for your living room dont get a 46".... Its just not worth it bro.. Im only 11 feet away from my 55" sammy 7100 and its now starting to look small.. And if you watch a lot of BR , your relly not going to get the best experience, because That extra resolution BR provides is exposed on LARGER screen.... The best of thatr being a 60"KURO or a actual projector.. You start to gain the benefits of blu ray above 50", so look at it that way.. When i got my 55" sammy and moved my ( less than one year old sammy , ![]() Bottom line.. get the sammy.. Actually look online.. 2600 is a shitload compared to the 2000 i paid for my ln52a750 in december WITH a 4 year warranty.. There reallly is going to be no noticable difference between the b750 and last years a750, besides you saving yourself bout $800 and getting a 4 yr warranty for $200 |

2ms response time is lightning fast but I didn't realize Samsung has made 240Hz LCDs. I was trying to decide between the 46" LN46A860 (razor thin) and LN52A630 (52" 120Hz) and now I'm really in a bind with these new 240Hz tv's. I watch a lot of sports, so the 240Hz would be really nice.

So I went and did a TON of online research, talked to friends who also spent a lot of time researching what to get and decided on either the Panasonic TC-P50V10 plasma or Samsung LN52B750 LCD. I went with Panasonic..at first. I got it home, spent a good 2 weeks with it and realized I just wasn't happy with it. A few reasons:
1. The whites were way off. I loved the blacks but the whites were just gray. 2. Video games looked horrible on this TV. No matter what I did to the settings (and I spent a good amount of time in the AVS forums digging through settings etc), video games just looked over detailed, pixelated and crappy. The 600mhz was a selling point for me because I do play a lot of video games, but it ended up making the games look choppy and it just plain hurt my eyes. 3. Image Retention was a pain in the but. I would be on my PS3 menu for 2 min, put on a bluray and I could see the PS3 clock (in the top right corner of the screen) for a good 20min into the movie. FREAKING ANNOYING. Plus I was more than worried about possible burn in. Unlike me, my family has a bad habit of leaving the PS3 menu up for hours at a time with the TV on after a movie is done. It would only be a matter of time before the PS3 clock, would be a permanent problem. 4. During the day, the TV was just plain too dark. The TV sits in a room with A LOT of windows, so the TV was being drowned out by light, and the image was constantly dark. The only way I could watch it during the day and be happy was to bump up the brightness..and that just plain messed up everything. 5. The color seemed OFF. No matter how many times I adjusted it, everything had a red hue. WTF? I even spent a good 2 hours with the Digital Video Essentials Bluray and it still never got right. No matter what I did, the colors always seemed to bloom and have an overexposed look. It took my wife finally saying "it just doesn't look as good as I thought it would" for me to take it back. I was lucky enough to find an open box LN52B750 at Best Buy for $1400 (after a lot of negotiating) so I picked that up, saved myself some $$ and got what I consider a substantially better viewing experience. I love this TV for the following reasons. 1. The Picture Quality...right off the bat, in the NORMAL setting was spot on. In fact, after a mere 20 minutes with Digital Video Essentials the NORMAL setting was damn near perfect. Now DYNAMIC is a crime to the eyes, its over saturated, overly bright and just overall unpleasant (of course my daughter thinks DYNAMIC is the best setting and every time I go to watch TV I have to switch it back to normal). MOVIE is just to darn dark, but with some tweaks it too is very nice. STANDARD was very close to NORMAL as well. 2. Whites are fantastic, as are blacks. I was very surprised at how well the blacks did on this set. The only time they don't impress as much is in a totally dark room. But I always have some ambient light on (one behind the TV actually, per Digital Video Essentials recommendation) so you don't notice it. 3. Video games look good on the set. Especially in Game Mode. Now, there is some lag, which sucks..and I am getting used to it, and still fiddling around with some settings to make it as good as possible, but the games look great. They look crisp without being overly crisp (like the plasma), color is great, motion is great. Overall, a great way to play some video games. 4. TV performs well both in daytime with tons of light spilling in and night. Now again, my living room has a ton of light coming in from both sides and I was worried about the reflective surface of the screen, but to my surprise, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue as the plasma was, which is weird. I guess its less reflective? who knows. Main thing is, the set is more than bright enough (I use STANDARD setting during the day) for a well lit room. My only complaints so far about the LN52B750 is the remote. 1. It is not very responsive, you have to aim it RIGHT at the TV to get it to do anything, almost like the batteries are dying or something, but from what I read on AVS forum, that is just how it is. ![]() 2. The remote is missing some essential buttons on it. I would have liked to been able to push ONE button to change my image settings (ie: standard, normal, movie, etc). Instead you have to go into a menu, and then select it. Very annoying. Also, the TV has a PIP that is pretty useful (especially if your like me and you have your PC hooked up to the TV, you can have PC on one side split screened with TV on the other, how cool is that). But there is NO PIP button on the remote. You have to go through a series of menus to turn it on. VERY stupid. Funny thing is, the remote has a series of colored buttons on it...that serve NO purpose. They could have easily made those buttons macros that you can program to do what you want or something?! So other than a crap remote, this TV is the bomb-diggity. |
