Just purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH for my home theater setup. I replaced my Yamaha receiver which had problems with outputting video via HDMI. Just curious to see what somebody else thinks of this new Pioneer I bought.

I'm now using this receiver and have had it for about 2 weeks.
The sound is wonderful. I enjoy the array of Advanced Surround modes. They are very useful for different types of program material. The ones I will use most often are CLASSICAL, STADIUM, and GAME. The remote is not as responsive as I would like since it is very directional. However, I placed the receiver on the bottom shelf of my TV credenza. In the manual it states that you need to allow ~12" of clearance above the unit for ventilation. My setup only has room for around 5" all around. But that seems to be sufficient. Even after hours of use it runs very cool. This receiver does not have a "harsh" or "bright" sound like some others. It is maybe even a little "warmer" sounding than my previous Denon (AVR-3805) was. By the way, I'm using it directly with the PS3 and my TV. When you get it, use the MCACC to do the initial calibration. I had to tweak it from there a bit, but it is very good at automatically setting all of speaker distances and delay. I sensed that all of my speakers were large, but changed them to small so that the subwoofer did more of the bass than just LFE. So far, no problems. |

Thanks for responding to my post. Have you noticed that this receiver does not have the volume level of other receivers? By the way, when I used the Auto Setup, it recognized all of my speakers as Large, had to switch them.... Do you have the receiver set up to automatically default to the correct decoding from the blu-ray player. Im getting ready to pick up my new Pioneer BD player, the new 95 that has DTS - HD MAster Audio. Cant wait....
Thanks, John |

I've had this receiver for about a week now. I love it. I left my speakers as large (from the MCACC setup) and adjusted my sub to "plus". Sounds a bit better than setting speakers to small and leaving sub as normal. But you can play around with it and find your favorite setting. I have both a BD and HD DVD player and even though I don't have an HDMI 1.3 player, TrueHD tracks sent via PCM sound great. I'm still fiddling around with it to try and get the best possible sound out of it but so far it puts my old JVC 702b receiver to shame as far as AQ is concerned.

cool, i wish they had stores like that around here. i have never seen a pioneer store or a sony style store either. they just dont have them over here in NH.
i am certainly interested in getting one on these players. i was holding out on buying the panny 10a player in hopes to check out this one and the new panny coming out soon. |

There is only one Pioneer store for now and it is here in CA. I am sure if it works they will open more. But they do take phone orders and ship them.

I have the 92 also and have had nothing but good luck with Elite's for years now. Their sound is very warm and full. I do not know what type of music or movies you prefer, but there is nothing better than some Miles Davis on the Elite. I hope you have some good speakers to mate it with.
By the way, my local Magnolia had the 95 in stock. They are selling for $999. The best way to get one is through the Pioneer store in Ca, The guys name is Jeff that will take care of you. They had some in stock as of a few days ago. I will tell you that ever since this buzz has started with the new Panasonic player, waiting might be better. The Elite 95 is very nice, but it is very pricey. If that Panny player is $499, and it does the same things, then I would wait. The PS3 is more than enough for now. But if they do not get that DTS-HDMA firmware going, people are going to become impatient. Last edited by jcs913; 10-30-2007 at 05:51 PM. |

I purchased a 92 back in September and have one ongoing problem that maybe someone here can solve. I use it along with a Sony BD300 disc player and a Samsung DLP TV. When I use an HDMI cable from the output of the BD300 to any of the receiver's HDMI inputs I get the disc's audio, but no picture. The TV does display the player's blue warm-up logo and the gray window that shows disc/player status - so the receiver is getting some signal from the player. I've spent hours on the phone with both Pioneer and Sony, and although they both tried to help, there was also a bit of blame-game being played. So, I have a 25 ft. HDMI cable going from the BD player directly to the TV and use optical cables for the audio to the receiver. This configuration gives me a crystal clear picture. I've tried replacing the HDMI cable, using different HDMI inputs, turning the components on in different order. What else is there? Interestingly, in a review of the Elite 91 (Stereophile Guide for Home Theatre - link at the Digital bits) the reviewer encountered the exact same problem. I kept the receiver in hopes for a Pioneer firmware upgrade of some sort. I get great picture, but I wonder if the optical audio connection will handle all of the advanced audio codecs.

I am not talking about any internal decoding. I am aluding to the bitstreaming of all the audio codecs. Both units bitstream all the codecs. The internal decoding is moot if you have the Pioneer Elite receivers, like in this thread.

I know what the 92 is capable of and so do you but have the specs of that receiver been posted in this thread. And saying something is will do the same thing is a very wide brush. Someone reading this thread and not knowing what the specs of the 92 are might pick up the panasonic thinking it will do everything that the 95 can do. And that is just not the case. Yes both can do bitstream decoding of all the codecs, but that was not made clear that was the only thing being talked about.
