Greetings,
I recently purchased the Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH Receiver and was blown away by the default sound out of the box. Here is my problem...instead of manually setting up preferences, I used the automatic setup for surround sound "MCACC & Full Band Phase Control" feature (auto setup using the provided microphone). After performing this, the audio doesn't sound the same. The receiver always shows PCM for any movie that is playing and any audio selection for the movie. Anyone familiar with this receiver know if there is a way to go back to the default setting...or know how I can remedy this issue? Thanks in advance for your help! |

doctorD, I have the older Pioneer model AVR VSX-82TXS with all components connected by HDMI cables.
Your newer Pioneer AVR just might use the same procedures as mine to enable different modes of sound. Check your manual to see if there is a section entitled, LISTENING TO YOUR SYSTEM. In my manual, this chapter lists the kinds of sound that are enabled through various cables (HDMI, analog, digital). It presents graphics showing the keys on the remote control that should be pressed to obtain a particular sound. There is another chapter that shows which dials on the AVR that also do the same thing. Another chapter in my manual entitled, STREAM DIRECT WITH DIFFERENT INPUT SIGNAL FORMATS, works in conjunction with the LISTENING chapter. It identifies every type of format that you can possibly obtain. I believe that by your using the information contained in these chapters, you will be able to configure your AVR to present the kind of sound you wish to hear. Good luck. |

If you're using your PS3 for movie watching, don't forget the PS3 is internally decoding and sending out as PCM. The receiver will only be able to decode and apply DSP to the lossy formats, but you need to switch it over from Linear PCM to bitstream. You can do this by hitting triangle during playback and clicking on AV settings.

I would reset the receiver back to the factory defaults and set the speakers up manually. I would get a tape measure and measure the distance of each speaker to your primary seating position and play around with the listening modes. Your manual is pretty easy to follow as far as setup

I used the auto setup and it sounds good. As far as you receiver diplaying PCM all the time, if you are watching something that is DTSHDMA(coming4/15) ,DolbyTrueHD or Uncompressed PCM, you receiver is going to say PCM and there is no way around that unless you buy a standalone that will bitstream DTSHD and TrueHD. When watching a movie with a regular DTS or DD soundtrack, set you PS3 to Bitstream by pushing "Triangle" and going to "A/V Settings" then your receiver will decode the soundtrack and the display will match accordingly.
I also recommend bying the DVE(digital video essentials) Blu-ray and doing a manual setup, very fun and informative. In the end, whatever sounds good to you is what is most important! Enjoy you Elite receiver my friend. |

I picked it up at my local Magnolia Audio Video store (owned by Best Buy) on sale this week for $999 ($300 off). Great price! My only bad experience is my own inexperience/confusion with the new features. Instead of doing the manual setup (all setup is on-screen by the way...on your tv!!!) to set the preferences, I used the receiver's automated setup feature which is pretty easy to use but you have to have some knowledge of what is being changed...something I need to do some homework on. Out of the box the receiver sounds awesome, but you definitely want to make sure the features are setup to accomodate your speakers, (i.e. speaker size, sub frequency, etc.). Awesome receiver but when you are upgrading like myself to one with a lot of new features...read the user manual before making any changes to familiarize yourself...something I didn't do. I'm having a little trouble with my PS3 and specific games. I am attempting to play the game Rock Band w/out Dolby Digital 5.1 (performance issues when turned on).
I was told to go to PCM Direct, someone with an Onyko receiver indicates they get MCH PCM Direct on the display. When I try to go to DIRECT or PURE DIRECT I only get STEREO, not Multi-Channel. I know I have all the correct options checked on the PS3 hardware, when I turn on the PS3 while in PCM Direct I will see 7.1 speakers displayed...then the game will start and it will switch to 5.1 (my configuration) but when the game loads the speakers go away and all i get is stereo. I was able to use the onboard audio processor to convert the PCM Direct to Pure Logic II which does not sound bad but I would like pure MCH PCM Direct support - any suggestions? ![]() |
