Default We're participating in and making history!

Wow, the passion of some of the posters here is fervent. Great, but please, as we enter the final phase of this war, the last decisive battles, we as participants of this Forum need to remeber the following:

There are two words often used here on this Forum, 'Thanks' and 'Sorry'. We are a zealous and passionate group of men and women with a common interest, and as we enter these final two months of the 4th quarter, seeing desperate actions, deep discounting, last minute manuevering, tempers will flare. We're watching the final battles in this format war. The loss leader $98.00 dollar - one day only sale, is not a final blow, just an act of desperation, in the final hours of the battle.

In this costly battle, remember, we are in the stands, not on the field, observers, not players. Yes, we need to remain focused, help where we can, be respectful of all those who have a passion for high quality entertainment. This is more like a civil war, which when over, we are still kindred brothers, who for a period of time chose a side, fought their best, made a difference (for all us, a better quality product at a fair market price), and when the dust finally clears, we'll finally see and understand, that the purist Gold goes through the hottest furnice, and that the most beautiful polished stone went through to roughest tumbler. Out of adversity, comes advance . . . so, stay the course, remain focused, be motivated for your cause, and if wounded or embarrased along the way, towards victory, remember - you helped shape the outcome of the war - benefitting all, not just a few [Jim]

I don't agree that we're "in the stands". It is reasonable to believe that members of the BDA lurk these and other Hi def forums. They surf the internet and read the blogs. So throw those ideas out! Educate people! We have something today that never existed in the Beta/VHS battle: The Internet. We are Time Magazine's "Man of the Year" for 2006. Make a difference with compelling, factual persuasion.

Also: Know Thine Enemy!

Hi Sleuth,

My reference to being in the stands as opposed to being on the field was referring to the actual decisions makers, who have their careers on the line. Yes, I'm aware we do shape, in a small part, what may occur, but not to the point and risk level, others are participating. That's all! [Jim]

Now now Jim, I for one have agreed with you before. But the other poster is right. The day is just getting started.

This is the second time I've seen a thread of this nature started in the past couple of days (Tron posted the first I saw), but it certainly bares repeating, over and over again.

AMEN! This war is nearing the end (we all knew it wouldn't last forever), and like Jim said, we're all kindred brethren, on both sides of the fence. But let's not forget: former HD DVD only fans will begin to make the transition (Purple on Purpose was my favorite name for them) to Blu as they figure out that the industry is getting ready to make its decision, and it will be in Blu's favor. They should not be ridiculed, admonished, or shamed. They whole-heartedly supported their format the same way that we support ours, and should be commended for their commitment. But now is the time to welcome them with open arms, to help them make the transition, and to reassure them that they have made a sound decision.

I stated in the other post by Tron that henceforth I will no longer use derogatory terms when describing HD DVD or its supporters, and I encourage all others to do the same. We, for one, are better than that, and with the world watching, looking for information, and basing decisions on what they find, we can ill-afford to be seen as petty, bickering fanatics.

Make no mistake: I do not advocate going "purple" from Blu, but the other way around, and in that process, I don't see the need to purchase any more HD DVDs, as the format is a dying breed and the money would be better spent elsewhere. The exclusive titles will not be for much longer, and when the end does come, it will be full-steam ahead with further enhancements and developments in Blu-ray. This will mean more content, better transfers of catelog titles, and more hardware at competive prices as mass odoption of the "latest and greatest" begins.

So stand proud, stand tall, and stand side-by-side with your purple brothers as they fade from purple to Blu! We still have a ways to go, but every day the end appears to be getting closer and closer!

I understand Jim. However, if a member of the BDA is lurking this thread, I would ask that he/she consider this.

Ideas. Behind every career making decision is a bright one.

I certainly hope so. I am getting a bit tired of this. For some reason discussing the merits of Blu-ray with an HD-DVD supporter is like discussing nuclear disarmament with Iran - thay have answers for everything but the answers do not make any sense.

Yes, but the other side sees this as a move that will help them win, as if the price of the players are going to stay that low.

Hi Atomic,

Your observation is correct. This desperate act 'cannot' be sustained, and we are no where near the actual 'holiday shopping season'. They may be dead bye the time the holiday shoppers begin. [Jim]

Don't panic !!! The BDA knows what they are doing, how to do it, how to profit from doing it. All those member manufacturers and studios are NOT as we forum members are, worring about the little stuff, like this last ditch desperation move by Toshiba and their retailers, like Circuit City or Best Buy. We are only at November 3rd., not yet into the major holiday buying season. They are simply playing out their trump card early. Their back is against the wall, they are desperate. The war's end is near, very near. So be patient!!!

[Jim]

Jim why do you always use the fatherly advice style in your posts?

I get what your saying, but it's kind of annoying and insulting to some of us.

When you speak I feel like this is the kind of audience you think you have here:

Get over yourself
