Default Need advice on on tv purchase !

Hey guys/gals,

Need some advice on what to pick up tomorrow..... I currently have a Sharp Aquos 42" LCD that is not making it past the 30 days I have with Best Buy. Its going back to the store in the morning... had it 16 days and screen is no good now !

Heres what I thinking of replacing it with:

1: Sony 40" 1080p LCD (KDL40V3000)
2: Panasonic 42" 1080p Plasma (TH42PZ77)

I have thoughts about each...... Both have plus and minus and would like to know what you all think as Im sure you all know more about this then me....

I like the Sonys. They are the best LCDs in my book.

You can't go wrong either way, but I still believe Plasmas have a better picture than LCDs. Especially when they are Panasonic or Pioneer.

Ok guys thanks for the feedback..... I know the Sony will be great but im torn between the two as I love the 0.1ms response of the plasma along with the antiglare glass cover..... Still undecided but going to the store in the morning regardless as current Sharp is done like dinner !

I have the immediate predecessor of the Sony LCD and I love it, no complaints at all (other than the typical "it's not the newest version" lol)

I see you play games, one thing to keep in mind with plasma is the burn-in.

Anyway I highly recommend the Sony.

Go with the Panny.

Check reviews at www.cnet.com and see what others think.

LCD's don't need "antiglare" glass cover because they don't glare to begin with. (Except for some newer Samsungs, which use glass cover )

I love my Sony LCD (46" XBR4) but I don't think a 42" Sharp LCD looks like crap either. Are you sure the problem is not your source? How are you feeding Blu-ray to the LCD?

Its not that the Sharp wasn't mint when i first got it... Second week there is now a large bar about 5 inches up from the bottom that goes across the whole screen and spits the screen and reflects what is on the top half.. to explain better if it shows someone with two arms in the pic... they now have 4 arms as bottom two are a mirror image of the top.... PS3 w/blurays are doing it with HDMI and regular cable tv is doing it as well.... Also when it starts up the whole bottom right hand side is pure black and then fades from the corner to the middle .... Basically i bought a lemon i believe..... Its going back later today !

Hey I bought the 46 inch version of that and it is a great TV. I kept it for a week because I had the chance to check out the Sony 46XBR4, maybe you should too.

Oh OK, that's definitely bad.

As for your original questions, you can't go wrong with either one. If you like to watch movies in a dark room, I'd recommend the plasma. The LCD might look better in a brighter room.

enjoy

Default I like Sony, but both are great

Both are amazing TV's. If you play video games or plan on using it as a computer screen, go with the Sony, no questions asked. If you plan on movies and a lot of sports go with the Panasonic. If the room is bright, or your worried about glare reflecting off the screen, go with an LCD over a plasma.

If you have some space where you're planning to view you TV then you should consider getting a DLP projector and a nice big screen. That's he best way to enjoy Blu.

Well everyone thanks for your input.... This morning I picked up the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000. Only spent a few hours with it doing a quick setup and tried a movie and few games and all I can say is WOW ! Totally kicks the Sharp's butt in every way possible.... Better setup, better remote, better tuner, better contrast, better color, more adjustments.... Wow, wow , wow.

Now all I have to do is get is extended warranty through sonystyle.ca and I'm set!
