Hi Guy's,
Good to see some more titles coming out as director's cut of the films, but why don't studio's apply the practise of having both the original and extended version on the one disc with all the extras? I also noticed the Blade Runner will be released containing 5 discs. Blu-ray could handle all 5 different versions of the movie on one disc? Or i am very much mistaken? Can Blu-ray achieve this as it worked a treat with The Abyss on the standard format. I see some titles such as Die Hard 4 and Independance Day out as original theatre release when it would appeal to a the wider public if you had the two versions of the film the watch. Finally are there more titles coming out as extended versions, such as Troy and saw 4? I hope this post is in the right forum, sorry if it isn't guy's Last edited by moggy; 11-27-2007 at 09:23 AM. We could do with that DC cut of King Kong, it was long enough to start with!

I wish we got the theatrical version of Payback. I hate the director's cut. Destroyed the movie in my opinion. Guess that's paramount for you.

its possible using the seamless branching technology, where it pieces together the movie from a collection of different scenes on the disc. Just like close encounters does it.

And Spider-Man 2 (or, I guess 2.1). Does anyone actually know if ID4 is only containing the theatrical cut for sure? From what I can tell, no one knows.

For everyone who wants a director's or extended cut, I hear a number of people who don't. Frankly, they should offer both versions--if they exist. I liked the director's cut of Daredevil and the extended cut of FF1.
I certainly enjoyed Stone's Final Cut of Alexander, but it was about 3 hours and 55 minutes long, with an intermission. (It took me two days to watch it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.) However, that reminds me of a line from WHAT A WAY TO GO. The egotistical film star husband number five (?), remarks without any hint of irony: "Seven and a half hours is not too long for a Pinky Benson fan!" -Greg |

AFAIR, Warner's "Amadeus" DC was one of the few times More was Less:
What Forman restored genuinely sent the feel of the picture off the rails (Salieri didn't hate Mozart because of a nude scene, Milos!), and we're hoping Warner's aware enough of the reaction to either bury or branch, if they're already priming it for Blu. |

As for Director's Cuts, I do think they should offer them both ways. I prefer the theatrical cut of Pearl Harbor to the director's cut because the gore seems out of place and the editing is worse (not to mention looping music bugs me). There was one scene with Alec Baldwin that they added that I did like though, but not enough to watch it with the added gore. And then there's Tears of the Sun, which the Director's Cut makes certain things clearer and makes the movie better. And the Kingdom of Heaven cut which just kills the theatrical cut (which shouldn't have been released in its form). But I think this seemless branching is genius for the simple fact that you really only need one main encode, and then just the extra scenes could be elsewhere on the disc. |

I agree with the Pearl Harbor Directors Cut. I felt that the gore took away from the film. I find myself watching the Theatrical cut. I did enjoy the added Alec Baldwin scene, but the gore was just too much for a historical film. I enjoy Micheal Bay films now since the release of Pearl Harbor, but it seems he could not keep his hand out of the cookie jar when it came to gore.
There are very few films where I watch the theatrical over the DC. |

But like I said, that's why seamless branching is soooo important and such a great idea (at least on Blu-Ray, on regular DVD it was more of a distraction). Hopefully Me, Myself & Irene will use seemless branching as well... But I think they'd have to remaster the added scenes a little better... |
