Yes Microsoft could switch to Blu-Ray or half a dozen other storage technologies. It's just storage people.

Exactly - I imagine that they can use pretty much any USB based storage device.

They are talking about a Blu-ray player for the 360, which has nothing to do with storage medium, but rather HD Movie medium, of which currently there are only two that the studios supply.

Um...Blu-ray "is" a storage medium. Microsoft is simply saying that the techology that the Xbox is based on is "portable" and if they wanted to they run it on Blu-Ray. Nothing to see here.

I think Microsoft is committed to HD-DVD the same way Universal is.

That is - at whatever point it makes a lot more sense financially to switch sides, or support both, they will. Microsoft I have zero belief in being a committed supporter of HD-DVD.

For some reason I feel Microsoft is more committed to pushing VC-1 out there then HD DVD.

As do I; they don't lose with VC-1 regardless which format succeeds.
