my tv does 1080i and 720p. i use component for hd when surround isnt used.

audio through hdmi or optical. you can mix and match the audio and video. example: audio through hdmi and video through component. you just have to configure the ps3

Yes. Go to Settings=>Sound Settings=>Audio Output Settings=>Digital Out (Optical) Select the audio formats that your system supports.

yes.

some games you might have to manually set the output to 1080i (games like to default to 720p)....if youre tv is like mine (1080i only), if the game is 720p, it will downscale to 480p.


what TV do you have, and what Receiver do you have?

Like what un4gvn94538 said, you can get an HDMI receiver and get Lossless audio, and still use Component for Video (I believe only the PS3 can do this)

I have a Onkyo reciever 5.1 DTS and a hitachi 57" CRT both 5 plus yrs old and the TV will only do 1080i but when I had a X360 games looked very sweet to my eyes in 1080i.....
