Default Component out for Video and HDMI to reciever for sound?

Is it possible to have the video out from the PS3 as component and assign the HDMI as audio only to the reciever? I have an older RCA HDTV and it only has Component inputs. I was wondering if I bought a new reciever that has HDMI inputs if I could send the audio out to it using the HDMI but still be able to use the component out at the same time? Basically I want to run component to the TV and HDMI to the reciver at the same time. Some people have told me you can't do this and others have said you can. I didn't want to waste the money on a new HDMI reciever if I can't get the HD ausio tracks to work. I know I can't convert HDMi to component and I'm not trying to do that, I just want to hear the new HD surround formats. Thanks!
