When should we start seeing RPGs going online. I think te only ones that's been on Playstation was hack, everquest, final fantasy. But I want something for the PS3. Like a Elder Scrolls online, a better Final Fantasy online. Just something like World of Warcraft.

Can you imagine trying to coordinate a raid on Black Temple in WoW and not have complete, easy access to all your abilities on one handy controller? I used to play both a rogue and a warlock in WoW (lvl 70, Stonemaul, Horde) and it's tough enough on a keyboard, let alone a Sixaxis. I don't even wanna think about PVP. Still, if they solve the controller problem, it's do-able. There was actually rumor of a WoW port to Xbox 360 once the clip-on keyboard was announced, but it never materialized. For what it's worth, I know for a fact that Blizzard has hired a bunch of console programmers... but that could just be for Starcraft II ports. |

Oy, that's the last type of game I need on PS3. Those games are too addicting.

![]() ![]() I got Final Fantasy XI for PS2 the day the launched it in the US... bought the hard drive/FFXI. I bought the contraption pictured above about three days later. It was such an easy interface that, when I later went to PC with the same game, I had great difficulty with the use of a mouse/keyboard. Quote:
There were thousands and thousands of console players in FFXI. There was an incredible spike in participants of FFXI when FFXI launched on 360. The only real problem with FFXI was the limitations graphically placed upon it by the restricted capabilities of the PS2. Yet, Square Enix has created a game playable on two different generation gaming consoles and computers as well. I think that Sony and Square Enix will partner for the next Final Fantasy MMPORG, though that might be many moons from now. It makes no sense to close off console users from your target market. . |

Will I be playing them though? No, I quit after WoW (Where I was also Fulgore on Khadgar) when my responsibilities in real life became more important, haha. |

I got into FFXI after that, got to DRG75 and PUP66, but like with EQOA got bored and stopped playing for a long time, only to come back when the newest expansions came out. Again, I was way behind the curve (especially where equipment was concerned and absolutely refused to get involved with RMTs), so I put that game to rest too. Anyhow, I absolutely believe that MMORPGs work just fine on consoles, especially considering I played the aforementioned Everquest: Online Adventures and Final Fantasy XI, both on the PS2. Whatever the future of MMORPGs on consoles may be, I won't be getting involved with them. They are WAY too time intensive (time I no longer have), and there are also far too many other screwed up things that occur over the life of a MMORPG. Politics (seriously, if you're not a cookie cutter type job/class, you get invited to parties or xp groups only as a last measure), cliques (snobbery abounds in these game, some people that have ridiculously powerful characters refusing to help new players, will only talk to others that have gear that meets their approval, etc), RMTs (Real Money Trading, for those that don't know. Often, the only way to get some of the best equipment is by purchasing it through the in-game economy, but more often than not is so ridiculously overpriced that the only way to obtain the funds to purchase said items is to pay Real Money to another player for X many millions of game currency.), etc... |

They have to adapt the length/fun of missions, a console player doesn't live with it like a PC addict, and they want to have fun from the first second of play. What I think they need to work at is the levelling = the customisation of your character, having some points to spend on characteristics (strength, speed, agility) and / or abilities seems important to me, and carreer specialisation too. Having NPC that guide you in your levelling possibilities would be nice, and even some kind of training that allows some kind of respec.
They have to think about a loot system that doesn't favor the "farmers" and people who "exploit" the game (like NC soft did at the beginning of City of heores, alas they introduced craft and "farmers" get more crafting material and recipes). I like the system of Chronicles of Spellborn, where the loot is only for appearance of the character, of course you get money to equip magical gems on your equipment (not unlike FFVII materia) but grinding will make you richer but not insanely because you get tons of ultra rare because you farm. I trust NC soft and Sony as they did the 2 MMORPG I had the most fun at : City of heroes (lvl 50 earth/empathy controller names Gaea's wrath and lvl 50 illusion/radiation controller named Fission Lass on Freedom) and Everquest 2 (lvl 59 Illusionist named Aishwarya on European server). I fear PVP as it partially spoiled the fun in CoH as many archetyped were severely nerfed, and I don't have fun killing people I prefer coop. |
