Default OK people, I need help

I have the Samsung BD-P1000 and seem to be having trouble. Best Buy has swapped my player twice and I feel like an idiot to go back again, but somethings wrong.

I did the firmware update, but I am having issues where the player locks up solid or the picture breaks up during play or disappears all together. Some movies seem to be worse than others like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. That movie will not play at all. You can only see part of the menu (if you get that far) or it locks at the FBI warning.

So far I tried a different HDMI cable and cut my receiver (Denon AVR-987) out of the loop and went direct from the player to the TV (Sony KDF-70XBR950). No workie!! I think this shows it's not the HDMI cable or the receiver causing it. Could it somehow be the fact that I am using a 1080i TV ? Crazy thought I know, but I'm running out of options.

Today I'm thinking about returning the Sammy and getting the Panny or the Elite. I don't mind spending the $'s if it will work....................but will it! Help please!!!

Simplest solution is best. Bring the player and the suspected cable to Best Buy and try them on their HDMI HDTVs. See if you have any problem there. If you do, then you have to get another BD player. If you don't, it's your TV's HDMI port.

And make sure you take your own movie disk in with you. The only disks they would have open and available to test with would be the demo-preview disks and it would be better to take a regular Blu-ray movie disk in with you. Such as one of them that you are having trouble playing.

OK, here is an update which says alot for the PS3. I took all my stuff to BB and they tested my HDMI cord and player. The HDMI was fine but my player did the same thing as well as their display Samsung. They claimed they never had trouble with their player before (it also has no firmware update, mine does) and I reminded them that they don't play movies just a demo disc.

Out of the 60+ movies I have, about 10 have had some sort of trouble (some minor) with the worst being The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Behind Enemy Lines. We tried the League in my Samsung, the store Samsung and the store Sony. All failed to play the movie correctly. The Sony did nothing at all and the two Samsungs got hung up in the menu section. BB said it must be my movies, keep in mind this is my 3rd Samsung, and did an exchange for the movies I got from Buy.com. They were making jokes about the movies from on line sales were knock-offs and their BD movies would work (j/k of course). We opened the new copies and THEY DID NOT WORK! Same problem. We then went to the PS3 display (kicked the kiddies away) and low and behold both played with no problems and loaded very fast. PS3 kicked stand alone butt!

There must be others on here with those movies and a Samsung (or Sony) player. Please try it and post, because now I am thinking of just getting the Panny or a PS3 as my everyday player. Thoughts??

Just a thought, but do all of these titles use BD-J on them?

Hello, C6 Z06.

Actually, this problem is not related with BD-J specifically. Some lot of 'LXG' and 'Behind Enemy Line' disks seem to be made with something diferrent tracking margine.

Thease problematical disks have a small 'BD' logo in the innermost circle of redcorded side. Please confirm.
In fact, these disks are not replicated in SONY DADC, and made by replication machines developped by Panasonic. Therefore, Panasonic DMP-BD10 have not suffered this problem. And PS3 has improved tracking avility from the beginning.

Hey, just checked and both movies do not have the BD logo on the inner circle. Today I exchanged the Samsung for the PS3 and all movies work fine. All my BD movies look better on the PS3. I still find it hard to believe! On Tues I'm going to a different Best Buy to try the movies in the Panasonic and if they work I will by that also. I'm sure Samsung will fix the problem on gen 2 or even with firmware, but I just don't want to wait.
