Talking A cool idea for sub woofer placement

Last week i bought a 72 inch Samsung DLP HDTV. so i know one simple rule is you should be centered with the TV screen.
so i thought make a riser for my couch. so this is my idea.
I have two klipsch sub-12 down firing subs
so i thought why not build a 17 inch riser put the subs inside the riser and put holes in the back of the riser for the air just want to know if its a good idea lol
Wait till my wife sees the new TV im dead

You'll get one boomy note out of those subs if you put them inside a riser with a few holes in the back. Plus, 17" is a huge friggin riser, you'll be sitting waaaay to high. You would then have to put your front speakers on stands as well so that they would be at the proper level for your ears.

Default Beat u to it....

I built a 8in high platform (framed and carpeted) to sit my couch on . I cut out a hole in the center for the sub . I have to say it sounded pretty good . I am rebuilding the theater and getting a new AV system at this time . I think this will be much better sounding set up when , I get the 7.2 Yamaha so I can also have a sub placed out someplace in the room. U get to feel the movie !!!!

Samsung 50in DLP,PS3 40G ,and new system being pieced together ~

Classic & congrats. What is your viewing distance from this monster TV?? Also do you mind me asking if you live in a home or apartment -- just wondering how those 12" firing subs will impact the neighbors

'Tis why my sub is unplugged most of the time

Can't wait to have a house.

Awesome, grats, and good luck. You bought a TV a week ago and your wife still doesn't know about it? You, sir, have balls of steel. My wife would kill me, and no amount of pretending it is a gift to her would help, women can see right through that trick. Good luck with your wife, an the TV, and the subwoofer.

Killing me would be preferable...my wife would divorce me and I would rather die than pay alimony!!!

I know you think this is a cool idea, but it quite frankly is truely one of the worst things you can do with a sub. You will essentially be putting the sub in a cavity that has a resonant point in it much like a port of a subwoofer does. The screams one note bass. Not a good idea at all.

Hey Blu Funk (hope I spelled that right)
If you really want to feel that bass, put a Buttkicker or 2 under the platform, then it will really

That's not a good idea. You should get some buttkickers underneath the chairs to feel the bass.
