I was wondering because Louis Leterrier wanted Spiderman to make a cameo in Hulk, but Sony wouldnt allow that to happen. He wont even make a cameo in the Avengers or any other Marvel movie until the contract with Sony reverts back to Marvel Studios.
Anyone have an idea when it ends, because this is the only thing i hate about Sony? |

I think that is what everyone is hoping for, Spiderman swinging and then some thing happens and its way too much for him to handle, so he calls Stark and then maybe Cap and what the hell, he will call Hulk as well. That would be kickass

I bet a trillion dollars Sony will retain the movie rights to Spider-man for eternity. Where is this thinking coming from anyways? The Spider-man movie series has earned over $2.5 billion at the box office worldwide. It's delusional to think they'd ever give up their movie rights.

The rights revert back to Marvel after x number of years without a film. I don't know if there is a standard number or if there is a different one per contract (Spidey, X-Men, F4, etc.). That is how they got the Hulk and Iron Man rights back, from Universal and New Line I think. So as long as Sony keeps making Spider-Man films they keep the rights. The X-Men rights continue with Wolverine, just like the Daredevil rights continued with Elektra.
I hope that made sense. I think I might have rambled a bit. ![]() |

From a recent interview regarding the Marvel properties movie rights that have been sold:
Quint: You mentioned crossovers though, but there’s one thing that I am probably the most excited about with you guys having the Studios and having Stark in this movie and just having it all intersect, do you think that there is going to be a time when you will have the franchises you have already given to other studios be folded back in? Like with SPIDER-MAN or X-MEN or… Kevin Feige: I think that’s probably a long way off, but that’d be great some day, but who knows? The ways that these deals are set up is that as long as those studios want to continue to make movies, they can with those characters. Quint: Do you think there’s any possibility of going to them and getting an exception or something? Kevin Feige: Anything is possible. You never know and really we are looking at the next three or four years for all of the ones that we control right now and putting them together and bringing them to the screen, but someday… who knows? It’d be great. It’s all about them coming home, which I like a lot, being under one roof now. When they re-up their payment they have a certain amount of time to make the movie before they have to re-up again. It wouldn't make sense to re-up and not take advantage of making the payment (by not making a movie). Quote:

And from Wikipedia:
In an August 2006 interview, Marvel producer Kevin Feige said he anticipated more sequels to the Spider-Man films "because of the wealth of stories in the comics".[54] Producer Avi Arad felt that some issues come to an end, but due to the character's age and his complex love life, the story is still continuous.[55] Although Tobey Maguire has not signed on for another sequel, the actor has denied reports that he will not return, stating, "I feel like the stories all deserve to be told, and, you know, if... the whole team wants to get back together, and we feel like we can make a good movie that's worth making, then I'm up for it."[56] Maguire later said in May 2007 that it may take years to develop a script.[57] Actress Kirsten Dunst has also expressed openness to return if director Sam Raimi and Maguire do.[58] Raimi told Premiere magazine that he "couldn't imagine" doing more sequels to the Spider-Man films without Tobey Maguire in the title role, but refused to completely rule out directing any future installments.[59] J. K. Simmons is set to return as J. Jonah Jameson, as well as Dylan Baker who portrays Dr. Connors.[60] Raimi confirmed that Sony would be making at least three more sequels, although he did not know whether he would be required to direct.[61] Even if he does not direct, he may stay on as producer,[62] or co-writer.[63] In January 2007, Columbia Pictures entered negotiations with screenwriter David Koepp, who is credited with the first Spider-Man screenplay, to pen the script for a fourth film, which would be released in 2009 or 2010.[64] The following April, the studio said that the sequel was in the early stages of development, with no official word on casting, start date, and release.[65] Later that month, Raimi expressed interest in directing New Line's The Hobbit. Entertainment Weekly suggested if he pursued the new project, the production schedule for Spider-Man 4 would be delayed, or a new director would replace Raimi.[66] Sony co-chairwoman Amy Pascal said that if Raimi, Maguire, and Dunst did not return, the studio would make more Spider-Man films without them.[67] Negotiations with Koepp eventually fell through.[63] In January 2007, Dylan Baker, who portrays Dr. Curt Connors, expressed interest in portraying the character's villainous alter-ego, the Lizard, as has Raimi.[68] Producer Grant Curtis is also a fan of the character, and has also expressed interest in Kraven the Hunter.[69] The Lizard was in an early draft of the second film's script.[70] Raimi said that if he returned to direct, he would take advantage of the established character of Dr. Curt Connors to introduce the Lizard. Raimi also expressed interest in setting up the Sinister Six with introductions to the Vulture and Electro.[62] Sony plans to release Spider-Man 4 in the summer of 2010.[71] In addition, Avi Arad confirmed in a one-on-one interview that a spin-off film about Venom was in the works.[72] In October 2007, Raimi said that he and the studio were looking for a new writer that would have a brand new take on the Spider-Man series. Raimi would relinquish creative control of the sequel's story and focus on either directing or producing the script.[73] James Vanderbilt was soon announced as screenwriter, impressing the studio with his focus on characterization. The studio also decided to limit the scope of the film to two villains.[74] Process, however, was obviously halted by the 2007-2008 Writer's Strike; but is now back up and running. In June 2008, Raimi has said that he is excited to read Vanderbilt's script and that it should be finished in a few months. He hopes Sony will rehire him, and he cannot imagine recasting any roles |
