Default Is $75 difference for the Onkyo 606 worth it over the 605?

I have the onkyo 606 at home right now and like it alot (bought from cc with the intentions of returning even if want it because can get offline for cheaper but in order to truly test it need it home) but with the live.com 25% off i can get a 605 on ebay for $228 shipped after i get the cash off or a 606 for $303 shipped. I really dont need all the 4 HDMI ports as i only need to really run my PS3 thru HDMI and can run my directv and xbox to tv and run them thru optical (so i can have diff picture settings unlike hooking this all up to the onkyo). Is there any other reason i should shoot for the 606 over the 605? Will the audio be the same? What you suggest i go for?

Well, first off, if you get the 605 you might have to make a firmware update immediately because it has a bug that it might blow out your speakers in True HD mode. Aside from that it has only two HDMI INputs. The 606 has 4. Also the remote has been redone. It's no a lot more ergonomic. Aside from that they are pretty much the same thing.

You can't do the firmware update yourself. If you are willing to bring it in and have it done and you only need 2 hdmi inputs I would say go for the 605. I have it myself and am very happy with it

Ur lucky your not from Ireland because the Onkyo 606 costs €600 or $950 over here!!! So you can surely manage the "extra" $75. Do it for me

Lol may take that into consideration and also would help me "future proof" the receiver a bit by having more hdmi ports when tv or 360 BD add on (if ever happen) go lossy

DTS-MA not TrueHD...

Other than that there are few differences. If you need the extra HDMI's, then go with the 606, otherwise as far as features and sound quality are concerned there is no real advantage.

BTW have the fixed the upscaling yet on the new line of x6 line of receivers?

One thing you might want to consider buying something like this item off an eBay site is the return policy (if there is one) from the seller and if in fact the seller is Onk authorized. Worst case scenario, say you get it and there is something really wrong with it or after a couple weeks you discover a significant glitch with it; most likely your only recourse will be to either ship it out in the mail or drive it to who knows where to the nearest Onk certified service center which could be like 100 miles away. As opposed to having bought it from a legit retail store or online business where all you would have to simply do is return it and get a brand spanking new one.

One other tidbit and this I am not 100% sure on, but if you buy your receiver from a source that is not authorized by Onk, I do believe the warranty is completely void so in that case you would have nothing other than taking it somewhere and paying for everything out of pocket.

Just because you do not need the 4 HDMI inputs now doesn't mean you will not in the future.

For $75 I'd go for the 606. Never know if you might need the extra HDMI's someday.

I just bought the 606 from who looks to be the same seller. Being that it was an authorized dealer with a 2 year warranty, I couldn't pass it up.
