Hi all, new to this forum. I've had the PS3 for about six months now. Overall, we have enjoyed its capabilities. However, there are three issues that I've noticed with the unit and wanted to see if this has affected anyone else.
1. There was an update a few months ago that allows a DVD to be stopped or removed during playback and start where it left off. However, EVERY time I stop or remove a BLURAY during play, it will always start over. Is this the norm? On movies such as the Pirates of the Carribean, this is especially cumbersome since the Scene Selection cannot be accessed until after all previews are forwarded through. 2. Ive noticed that there seems to be a slightly different audio encoding for Bluray than standard DVDs when wanting to listen to 5.1. Specifically, I will put in a standard DVD and the reciever (Pioneer 1015) will operate normally. Then, I will put in a Bluray movie and the reciever thinks the signal is in stereo and I will need to override this with the Surround button on the reciever. Still, it will not activate the subwoofer, however. This happens on both movies and PS3 video games. For reference, I am not trying to access the HD audio. 3. The most concerning just began with the most recent PS3 firmware update, version 2.41. There has never been any Bluray playback issues with movies on my Mitsubishi 73" projection TV (model 73734) until this firmware update two days ago. Now, the screen will glitch during playback of the previews, main menu and the first part of the movie. The glitches look like snow/static over the entire screen and will last only for a split second. However, it can happen half a dozen times or more per minute. Also, when this happens, I can hear a component click inside the TV. It's the same sound that the TV makes when the input signal changes, such as adjusting from 480p to 1080p. This glitch combined with the stop/start issues mentioned can make this very frustrating if I need to pause the movie for longer than a few moments or press "stop" out of habit. For reference, I am using a 4' Monster 800HD Advanced High Speed HDMI cable. Thanks in advance! Buzz Last edited by Buzz831; 07-14-2008 at 09:26 PM. |

1. if your using hdmi, set the bd/dvd settings to lpcm. i using optical set to bitstream. hd audio is only two channel with optical. be sure to select the audio you want to hear in the disc menu
2. in the settings, you can enable or disable disc resume. not all blus are compatible. has to do with the use of bd-j. 3. sorry not sure Quote:

Sounds like an HDCP issue to me. Your TV and PS3 aren't talking together right. Try setting the PS3 to ouput 1080i. If that works fine without any problems I'd say that there is an issue with HDCP when running at the 1080p resolution. I'm having the same problem right now with an older hdmi switching receiver only when I'm outputting it at 1080p from my PS3.

So far, all BD tried (3 different Pirates of the Carribean, Spiderman 3 etc). *Update: There were a couple of options in the menu that were disabled, ATSCAP (sp?) and WMA. Not sure if these make a difference, but so far I haven't seen the glitch with Spiderman 3. Last edited by Buzz831; 07-15-2008 at 01:26 AM. |

HDCP is basically coding (copyright protection) on blu's. It does sound like you tv and ps3 are having handshake issues (basically where the ps3 and your tv talk to each other via the hdmi cable) this has been a known issue with the ps3 and many tv sets.
if you can try plugging the hdmi cable into another hdmi port on your tv. Can you download new firmware for your tv? many manufacturers release new firmware to take car of issues like this the settings you turned on will have no effect on the playback of blues. WMA is windows media audio (microsoft answer to mp3) I would say i am 99.9999999% sure it is a handshake issue with your tv and ps3. |
