I was wondering if anybody knew the answer to this, I have done this numerous times, last friday I logged on to PSN and began to download the new Madden demo, and Facebreaker demos. While I was waiting I got on XBL and down loaded the same demos and 3-4 Ninja Gaiden videos.
I checked back a few minutes later and the XBL downloads had completed Madden and Facebreaker, while on PSN Madden was only at 28% and that doesn't include the auto install like XBL. Whats going on? I have always wondered why this is and maybe you PS3 guys can tell me. Is it the PSN itself cause it can't be the PS3, or maybe it is I don't know. |

Maybe since it's sharing bandwidth between the two the XBL is taking in more. Idk? I haven't noticed a difference between the two when I download demos.
One thing I have noticed about the ps3 downloading slower is when I'm doing something else with the ps3 while it's downloading in the background. I.E. playing online, folding@home, etc. Other than that if I set it to download and leave it, it's not very slow. Last edited by DaMexiRican; 08-06-2008 at 08:30 PM. |

I no longer have a 360 but when I still had it, mine was also noticeably faster with downloads. PSN has always been slower than I'd like but I have no idea what the issue is (hardware?, software?, b/c it's free? config issue on my end? or some other reason).

I can't compare to the 360, but I have no real complaints. I often download large files so i expect it to take a while and it is not particularly slow to me... if it was faster that would be great but I am not complaining now.

I see only two reasons.
1. It's a Free service. 2. Because another system is being use for download, that causes PSN download to slower down a bit. For me, I have no complain. Mine usually goes at 1 mb per sec. It's pretty good actually, not so bad at all. Been like this for a year now. But I do notice that when I download something from PSN, it either slow down my PC downloads, or it's the other way around. I guess PSN server don't like you sharing your bandwidth with another system while using it. |

I am not complaining either, I would like to know why if anybody knows. The only thing that bugs is that there is no auto install. I have done the downloads seprately as well
XBL is twice as fast in most cases and even faster on some. Madden for instance took 3-4 minutes on XBL and took about 15 minutes to download + like 2 to install on PSN, maybe its my PS3 I don't know. |

my ps3 is considerable slower than the 360 in my house.
ive noticed it too, figured it was due to sony maybe having smaller servers or something. its free so no gripes. |

Are both connected wirelessly?
The PSN is slower from mine and my friends experiences as well, but it's free so what can you do really? A bit off topic, but does anyone know why when I use any bluetooth device with my PS3 (headset or controller), I lose my wireless internet connection? I have no problems connecting my Wii to the internet wirelessly while using its bluetooth controller |

I do hate how they don't have an autoinstall on the ps3 though. That is a bit annoying that your waiting for it to download, then you have to install it and wait a few more mins. |

This is one reason why. This is one area where Microsoft excels because they are a computer company...establishing networks and servers is right up their alley. Not the same with Sony.

- It could be the route the data takes through the network to your neck of the internet. - It could be your ISP's network. - It could be some of your ISP's business partners. - It could be the difference between wireless and wired connections in your house. - It could be another device on your personal network sucking down more bandwidth (sometimes the 2nd download request slows down the 1st one). - It could be the load on (too many people accessing) the PSN at the same time - It could just be the size of the files you're downloading (large files takes more time) - It could a combination of any of the above. That is why some people say their download speed is fast and others say it's slow. As you can see, there are MANY things that can effect download speed (and that's not all of it). |
