Just curious.

I'm an avid runner and cyclist, currently training for the Bootcamp Challenge at MCRD San Diego, on October 4.

If so, are you/have you competed in races? Or do you do it for fitness/casually??

I've been lifting weights recienty on my brother's weight set. Problem is, the dumbbells he has (an interchangeable set which makes it more compact and convenint) got broken and for now I can't work on my biceps or triceps. I also need something for my ab's. I'd get that 6 second ab's thing, but I have no money. Just call me a jock who's too cool for sports.

I'm not much of runner, but when I do my cardio days, I really enjoy it. I'm more of a weight lifter and I do both for my health. Have been for a couple of years and love it! Lately I've been kinda lax due to time constraints and family obligations.

I've been trying to get back into lifting. Anyone know of a good book I can buy that outlines a good lifting program?

Check out the "Platinum Workout" by LL Cool J

Also check out stewsmith.com This guy is an ex-Navy Seal who works now as a personal trainer. His site offers plenty of free workouts and information. Great Resource.

You could check a number of websites including bodybuilding.com, menshealth.com, and about.com (under sports-bodybuilding). I picked up my current program from about.com.

http://bodybuilding.about.com/od/wei...ymtraining.htm

I'm currently on the advanced routine and I do have adjustable DBs and they're awesome. They are Ironmasters and you can find them on their website @ ironmaster.com. A little expensinve, but they are built for life!

i live in tahoe so i do all my training at ~6300 ft. talk about grooling at times. anyway, i weightlift, spin, bike, water ski, snow ski, hike, backpack, etc. i have a buddy who i cycle with now and again down at sea level and i crush him when he is at elevation or i go down to it.

as for looking for a workout, no two things work the same for every person. we all have tendencies to build muscle in different spots, we peak at different point, etc. personally, i recomend menshealth and from there take a standard workout then modify it to where you see the greatest results especially as you pick up different ideas that you like more.

edit:
here is the workout i try to adhere to:
http://www.menshealth.com/cda/articl...0013281eac____

i have it modified for me, but the principles are the same.

Thats the biggest motivation, running with a buddy, it gets boring doing it by yourself and I lost motivation. Wouldnt take much to get back in gear

well, my buddy is nowhere near me... as in ~200 miles away... just an illustration what even altitude can do for you

none of my friends can/will go with me because i go too early for lifting and gym work

HUGE, by Flex magazine... great book on proper technique, and different meal plans, as well as the in-and-outs of how your body metabolises food. Based on it's principles i've lost close to 60 lbs, while getting stronger. I swear by it!

I used to do Capoeira and Muay Thai.

Muay Thai was the hardest/best training regiment I ever took
