Sony BDP-S500 no bitstream DTS-HD MA? - Blu-ray Forum

was thinking of picking this up. so if Im correct that it wont bitstream DTS HD MA through my new receiver? Would a new firmware fix this in the near future?

Your understanding is correct... and NO firmware update is coming. Grab the new S350 instead (if you're looking for a Sony standalone). Bitstreams everything... faster to load... and is BonusView capable (and a BD-Live update IS coming). The S500 is a year old, and is being replaced by the S550.

The 350 is supposed to bitstream DTS HDMA, but unless there is some double secret setup menu, it doesn't yet. I have setup two with receivers that have the decoders and it won't play the DTS HDMA bitstream now. Maybe it needs an upgrade. The 550 will do DTS HDMA though.
