Unhappy My HDTV looks small now

As my sig says, I got a 52" HDTV and I remember when I purchased it at the end of last year it looked so huge and stuff. This afternoon I went to the mall downtown and I checked TV's for the first time in almost a year to see what is out there these days. Well with now most TV's at least 50" and many 60" and even some 70", when I looked at 52" screens, it did not feel so impressively huge, just average.

In conclusion my TV has shrunk

I feel your pain. I upgraded from a 27" CRT to my 42" Panasonic....thinking it was huge. Now I see that I really need something much bigger....like 58"

Grrr.....just don't have the money for it now.

Hey! I have my 46" BRAVIA HDTV and I still love it! It doesn't need to be bigger.
Just sit closer to your screen and you will be fine.

I never heard of a TV being used to compensate for something.

Hey, my first HDTV is a 34" Sony Wega Tube which weighs 200 lbs and uses a separate HD tuner box. I keep it for a lot of reasons. One being tube sets FAR outlive any plasma, or LCD TV on the market. It has been 5 years and the Wega still has lots of life in it. Let's see how our plasma's and LCD's look in 5 years.

On my job we recently gave a user a second Dell monitor for a dual monitor setup. The new 2nd monitor was identical to the first, just 2 years newer. Even with the exact settings on both the new one looked noticeably brighter. Took some fine tuning to get them about the same.

Ok, maybe the Dell monitors are just crap. Or, maybe LCD dims a little more everyday with normal use. My guess is the latter. So chin up guys. You will have an excuse to replace your TV before you know it!

I don't feel this way. My 52 is fine but I am glad I did not get anything smaller.

Default Rule of Thumb

I remember reading a "Rule of Thumb" regarding TV size at AVS Forum that said, "nobody ever wishes they got a smaller TV". How true, especially when you are watching Blu-ray.

I went from 27" tube to 35" tube to 58" CRT RPTV to 42" plasma to 55" LCD RPTV to 58" plasma. I've had my 58" plasma for over 6 months, now, and it hasn't shrunk yet. Next jump will be to a 120" front projection, but for now I'm very happy I didn't go smaller on my plasma.

My very first 42" Panasonic ED plasma is 5 years old and still looks as good today as when I first got it. To me, anyway.

What you need is a nice 200" TV like this one:

J/K This was at my bro's bachelor party, i hooked up my PS3 to the projector. Very cool, lots of fun.

(BTW.. I have no idea how big this screen really is)

Went over to a cousin's house yesterday and he just got a samsung 52" A550,damn that thing is huge! i dont know how you think your tv is small quexos.
i thought his tv was a 60" thats how big it was,i have a 40" samsung now i want a bigger one. i always did after having this tv for a year, but now i really want a new tv after seeing his. i do sit 4 feet away from the tv and its in a small 10x12 room so it does look bigger than it is sometimes
question is a 52 or 60" tv to big for a room of my size?

Over Labor day weekend I built a DIY 100" screen and brought home a Projector from work to test it out(a Canon SX600). My wife and I then watched movies for 4 nights and she now wants this moved to our Home theater(the Tweeter Center as my wife calls it). She says she never wants to watch tv again. Guess we are buying a Front projector soon. I also am amazed that $45 in materials made a screen that looks so awesome. We currently have a 40' Sony lcd and a Panasonic plasma 42" as well as our Mitsubishi 55"crt rear projection tv in the Home Theater. Anyone want to by a tv?

I had this problem with my 60"... should have gone with the 70". oh well

Still have a 13" or something in the bedroom though, so that's a very painful transition. Need to go pick up a 42" for the bedroom

It happens no matter what size you get. I have a 118 inch screen with my projector and I want bigger!!! I have a 61 inch tv in the living room and it seems small alot of the time.

went from 32" crt to 32" lcd to 40" lcd.. thought the 40" was huge at first but now it doesnt look so big... i remember looking at 36" sets in the shops years ago and thinking they were massive...

i cant go any bigger than 40" though due to room size/viewing distance.. and wife acceptance factor... which is why i hope sony and others dont limit their high end tech to screens of 46" and higher.. like LED backlighting etc..

its amazing how you get used to size though..
