$400 for speakers, wires and receiver? just get a HTIB.

if your just asking about a receiver get a Onkyo 605 or higher.

Hmm, check out the Monitor 50's in my sig below. (Look at the bottom of the page at the Warehouse deals from Amazon on the Monitor 50's) You'll need to purchase two of the 50's and just the one center CS1 speaker. For surrounds, I'd say check out these.

It is all about budget. If you can up it, something better can be offered. I have the setup that Driver King mentioned, and it is great. After sub purchase, it was around 800 dollars. You could get it and the Polk sub Crackin mentioned for around 600 dollars.

This is what I bought, but again it comes down to budget and what you like. The sub I listed above is a lot of sub and I only have it turned up a little over half way....

I would look at Crackin's suggestion, or get this as it is easy to upgrade individual pieces later on...

I think you should look for a more long term investment. The longer you wait, the less money you'll waste and the better setup you'll have. The Polk 5.1 package is good, however, it wouldn't be as good as having the setup I listed. Skimping on better quality speakers or a good subwoofer is a big trade-off. I'd rather have nicer speakers and save for a good subwoofer (A2-300) than just get a package(which is still nice but can be had for around $200 and for $400, there are better options, i.e. the Polk setup I listed). I hope that helps.

Edit: So for less than $420 shipped, you get everything I listed. Don't forget, the subwoofer isn't the most important part of your home theater (but it does help) so don't think not having a subwoofer right now is bad.
